I spun a main and the block is ruined. The truck is at Smith Power, and being a Detroit shop, they will put in a crate motor with labor being $6,000 to r&r. The $25,000 for the crate motor is out of my budget, so I'm looking to get pull out for a lot less. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine that Smith would r&r to an engine I bought, so I'm looking for another shop to do it. Any ideas?

They might R & R it at Smith.
Holst truck parts in Ucon, Idaho may have an engine. They are a salvage yard. I have bought a transmission from them and quite a few other parts. They are reputable, but I am sure there is a big gamble knowing what you are getting.

The best shop in SLC doesn’t work on Detroit nor likes to deal with people who can’t spend $30k for an engine. With that said, Seagull Diesel, Pete’s Diesel, Payson Diesel, Joe’s Diesel would be my first phone calls if I were you.

I’m not sure if they still do this kind of thing because the original owner(wonderful human being) passed away but Davies Motor in Springville would have been the undisputed go to here 10 years ago!

You could try Rush, but I think they suck but they have other locations so if anything goes wrong with the inframe they could warranty the work elsewhere.

I used to take our buses to United Diesel not to far from where you are now, didnt really have a problem with them, price was reasonable.
