I have been looking at trucks lately (going owner op from company driver)
And after looking at a few found 2 I like, though still looking. Want a mechanics opinion on these before I go take them for pre purchase inspection, fluid analyze etc.
1) a 2012 KW t700, 450k miles. Automatic paccar mx13 engine
2) 2015 volvo VNM 630 with 509k miles. Automatic with VED13 engine
Have not asked about maintenance records yet so not sure there. Both are owner operator trade ins though iirc.
Will be doing southeast regional dry van loads, nothing too heavy, no mountains, ice etc.
Advice on these 2 trucks

Volvo parts are comparatively expensive, (google an OEM valve cover gasket for a D13 vs a DD15) the 2015 D13 EGR and aftertreatment can prone to problems and is difficult to diagnose correctly if the mechanic isn't familiar and doesn't have access to, and willing to use Volvo service information. They had injector cup issues, and unless the mechanic follows the 52 step procedure exactly, they will most certainly fail again. The wiring doesn't hold up, and its one main harness from the front of the truck to the mid frame which cost $3K. The base engine is good, and the I-Shift is unmatched in reliability. I don't have any experience with the MX13. @Goodysnap would be a great guy to ask about that.

All I can offer you is hearsay. But several people have told me to avoid anything from about the start of def, till around 2016 when they had many of the bugs worked out. Its just what I heard, not what I've experienced.
