What Should My Backup Plan Be?

    As I've mentioned elsewhere, I now work for an Atlas van line agent and I'm working on getting Atlas certified for interstate travel.

    The process is kind of sluggish right now, and I have some skepticism about the initial outcome. The moving business can be real feast or famine, and I can't afford a famine anymore. Got a year old baby and another on the way.

    If Atlas doesn't pan out, what should I look into?

    I got my tractor-trailer experience exclusively from on the job training (since May), got my CDL in October from a DMV test (never did trucking school).

    So I have less than a year of experience and I'm not a "CDL grad". This cancels a lot of options off the bat.

    I'm 29, living in North Carolina, I'm physically active and capable, experienced in household moving/furniture delivery/material handling, and willing to go on the road for up to 5 days at a time. So something regional or local would be best.

    Do you have endorsements?

    On applications and phone interviews: "Did OJT for 5 months; May thru October then acquired my cdl in October."

    Sysco,us foods etc... are hurting for drivers. If you live close enough to a dc for training.
