    I’m not judging.

I did some short haul stuff for a few days. I left all my securement for the loads including coil racks and tarps right on the deck on the empty run. I just threw a strap over the pile on the deadhead.

    NONSENSE!

I properly stow my chains and binders after every load, every time.

For any other questioning you will first need to speak to my lawyer.

Until it does. Especially on those trailers. When you hit a pot hole, they just bounce.

Sorry for the very late reply to this topic. But the nerd in this Carhauler had to point out why this method is far superior to the other. As long as that chain not hanging up along the rail or in the lifts , this method putting far more force into the load. The other method only has two legs to the trailer, so double the chain tension is applied to 3 lifts, while this method is applying that force to every lift! There's more losses to stiction this way, but there's so much more force it's still a better option, provided your chain isn't catching on any edges. When we did this back in my Oily days, we'd put a boomer on both ends of the chain to make sure the tension was equal on both ends of the chain.

After seeing what @D.Tibbitt said, you just answered my next question, which was would the binder not be too long to be used that way. I see you crossed the chains on yours which makes the lines of pull longer.

My last load of the year was bagged coal and it settled/loosened enough for my folded tail to come out. It's only the 2nd time I've ever had one manage to untuck, but both times resulted in me envisioning a Final Destination scenario of it catching a the center of the trailer wheels and ending with everyone on the highway dead lol. Needless to say, it wouldn't wait 25 miles to the rest area.

Traffic is pretty light on that stretch, with several really wide areas on the shoulder. He could have at least stopped and picked up that tail then moved to a better location. We watched it come darn close to getting caught in the trailer wheel several times. He had DOT#s on the doors, so supposedly a professional too.
