Can local driving be done?

Hi everyone,
I first want to thank everyone for all the great information that has been provided in the past, it really helped me get a better idea about my future. I would like to get some feedback from real hard working members on here that can give me good feedback unlike things we watch on YouTube. I am in the process of considering a new career due to the physical demand of current type of work and needing to make a change. I might stay on with my current employer but change the type of work I do if that becomes an option. I have always liked the trucking industry and have considered this a career. This is where it gets a bit tricky since I will not want to jump in like many others in the industry. I would definitely get at least my class b cdl, most likely through a school. I will be buying a new 2022 f450 in the next few months, even if I decide not to pursue this path. So here is my question, can this be done in a way that I stay somewhat local and I’m home most nights. I first want to mention that I don’t need to make a lot of money, I am very fortunate that I have the resources to not be the breadwinner in the family. I also plan on either paying cash or financing part of the truck so a lot of debt is not a concern. I think if I cleared 60k I would be happy, not sure if that’s possible doing mostly local runs. We plan on buying an rv and traveling so that is why I plan on buying a dually. I understand this is not typically the normal thing to do in this industry however I do not want to be on the road all the time and gone for weeks at a time. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

 

I probably should have mentioned that I have 3 young kids at home, however we have a lot of help with family. I am in my 30s and I like the flexibility of making my own schedule. Thanks again

 

Really? I feel like I am seeing more hot shot drivers on the road than ever before, maybe it depends on area. I’m sure it doesn’t pay as much as driving a semi and that affects the amount of people that consider this as an option. For me I like the idea of having a truck I can use for work and for our adventures with the rv. I recently spoke with 2 guys that have more than 60 years of driving experience and they said that the industry is hurting for drivers, I’m sure mostly otr drivers. I wish more companies offered local work, I think that would change the way people look at this industry

 

Is this a program that requires to hire on after the schooling is completed?
