I would say that is the laws and not the ELD. If the law would allow us to do the job safely and use our own judgment then it would be no issue. But then some dumb dumb would mess that up like I am sure they did already.

No way would I sit there for both of those scenarios. I be unplugging the unit and moving or logging off duty and driving as needed. The weather this time of year is one of the reasons I try to actually sit if I see bad weather coming to an area I may have a run for. I turned down so many good paying loads going to the DELMARVA area because of that storm a couple days ago. So glad I did too because 95 was a literal parking lot for days.

Hey Genius.. when I started years ago I was fully aware that when I bumped the chute if it took 30 mins to load or 2 hrs that is just the way it is.I knew exactly what that load was paying I also knew when I unwraped the rope and the door went it was time to go .. no crying about being tired or bad roads or the weather..or miles
That was my choice to make when I back up and bumped the chute
Sounds to me like you you feel like the path in life you choose was a little rougher than you where prepared for and Uncle Sam threw you a life preserver with ELD or maybe a log book was just to complicated for you to figure out
Or may your just plain lazy ( thats my bet)
by your S##### standards I'am 1 of those (old guys) with your so called ( work me to death mentality)
I promise you 1 thing my choice in careers has not disappointed me even on my worse day so don't lecture me about how bad it was before E-LOGS
You sure seem to carry a huge chip on your shoulder.. you post I quoted shows it.. thats too bad your life sucked so much before the magical ELD came about to save you from the fire & brimstone you preach about when running on paper logs
Sorry for you misfortune & misery

Imagine whining about not being able to work over 70 hours in days, and drive more than 11 hours in 14 hours each day.

Hey. If you ain't made it in 70?

You ain't gonna make it. Lol

Demand better jobs and hourly pay at a healthy rate, don't simp for giving away even more of your lives to a JOB. Jesus.

70 is more than plenty. I'd like to run half that like a normal person.

Ideally drivers would be allowed to choose. Those who want eld, please do so. But for the paper fans, do that.
That is how it should be.

And I generally agree with this, but the ELD mandate has the byproduct of driving up pay in the long run. You can't get super truckers running for 38 cents per mile 90 hours per week anymore. Now you have to pay 60 cpm per mile so that the guy makes enough money for what I already feel like isn't enough home time. I think that's an excellent byproduct of the mandate.
