Roads have been very slick in bc passes are expected but some areas it’s plain contractor greed 3 to 4 inches of snow pack on easy to clear areas then the hot weather hit and roads were so choppy it was ridiculous.

It sounds like it may be time to stop farming out the road maintenance to contractors.

Road maintenance on the number 1 has been awful this year. -Even number 5 around Merritt.

It’s aggravating because there’s so much traffic along that corridor, it can’t keep getting shut down for wrecks.

I’ve noticed a real lack of sanding. They definitely need to step it up. And I wouldn’t say it’s all of BC, I’ve taken a couple trips up north of Williams Lake and maintenance has been good up that way.

Had to last week on 5 between Clearwater and Valemount. Glare ice under wet road. Could not tell when it was just wet and when it was ice and water on top. Looked the exact same. Was going 30-50 kmph most of the way with the trailer angled towards the ditch some parts just from the ice.

I don’t know man. If I had a safe place to chain, I’d park there rather and wait for the sun or DOT truck to de-ice the road. Chains on a thin layer of ice may as well be running them on dry pavement. I’ll chain all day on packed, icy snow, but not for what you described. Be safe out there.

The thing is there is no waiting for plows. That is the problem, they take a few days to clear things up and even then its a half ### job
