Perhaps you drive on the west coast. The farther east you get, the busier the CB gets.

I jump out with no jacket as well. I always roll the window down first. It’s become a habit.

Get out in western Canada probably half the province has no cell coverage and nobody runs a CB. Mostly 2 way VHF radio.

    It's available through Sprint sir.

Remember those gimmick phones they came out with that you could hit a button on the side? They were basically walkie talkies that would scare the #### out of you because someone would just start yelling in your pocket.

Good flip phone though. I liked it for the time.

I switched my cell service from Sprint to AT& T specifically so that I would have coverage almost everywhere I went.

But in the event that I had no service, I would just send a message to dispatch via KeepTruckin which switches to satellite when no cell tower is available.

My cellphone plan is $3 dollars cheaper than Verizon and I have coverage everywhere except West of the Mississippi or North of Mexico.

No name or city-only coverage from the lesser networks is a bad deal. There are MVNO companies that use Verizon towers but dont cost as much as Verizon. Get a plan on the Verizon towers if you ever think your safety might depend on cell service.

Those were originally by Nextel. There were no airtime charges for the two-way function.

It definitely came in handy when per minute charges were fifty cents. Especially because my kids didn't understand that it just cost me a couple bucks for them to call me while I was out in the back yard, to ask if they could have some cookies. Lol, took a minute to train them on the difference between which method cost money.

Then when texting came along, my oldest daughter took to it like a fish in water. Unfortunately, she also had texting like habits on the phone as well. It was infuriating when she'd call to ask a quick question, then just hang up on me when she was done talking. I guess she thought she was saving money.

When I was doing OTR in the midwest I never heard anything on the CB except a few times at truck stops when they were just yelling at each other. I’ve also had CBs in my car for the last 15 years. It seems they used to use them more but now I never hear anything. Years ago you could always hear people talking on the CB
