As you know I’m no Detroit guy. By the location and appearance I would say that is your 7th injector or also known as the DPF fuel doser/ injector.

When we spoke on you doing EGR cleaning, does it also clean this location?

That injector must be removed and the hole must be cleaned every 6 months... otherwise regen temp is going to be low and there will be high *fuel pressure in hydrocarbon injection line* code( sorry i forgot the numeric code)...

The detroit manual will call it a "Fuel Doser Injector Valve" or "Hydrocarbon Doser Block" aka 7th Injector.

no codes yet, but that’s the next cleaning I’ll be doing.

do you happen to know if the chunks of carbon fall into the exhaust pipe it’s going to be a problem? Or will a regen fix it?

Any special tools to remove the injector? And jam a bolt down to clean it like in a YouTube video I’ve seen. Or should I remove the whole assembly to clean it properly?

Regen will fix it. I use an .40 cal gun barrel brush to clean out the orifice. A new doser is about $185. I've always just replaced mine when necessary. SPN 3556 is the code you get when a regen fails because it can't generate enough heat. A clogged doser causes the fuel to stream out instead of spray as a fog.

    LoneRanger and msh Thank this.
