I keep seeing people posting here insisting that we can make more money doing something besides trucking. I continually ask what I can do to make the same money i make trucking, without trucking, and i get no responses.

So again i ask, what can i do besides trucking to make more money?

    Honestly ??

I can make about $750 a week with major benefits as a janitor, even more as a line worker, if I'm willing to get myself out of bed at 4am every morning. That would be auto industry related.

Oh and I have to spend the week at my sisiters house. Cuz I ain't driving 120 miles one way, every day.

Now $750 a week doesn't sound like that much. But it beats the hell out of $1200 and living in a truck....any day.

    Seriously?

Just about anything in the medical field. Demand is still relatively high even in the current economy and will stay high for the next few years.

RNs make $50K plus and even lab techs make around 20-25K. Some positions don't even require that much schooling.

Well i only make about $800 a week and i have janitorial experience. So why dont you tell me where you can make that much as a janitor? Where i live, janitors are part time and make minimum wage.

As far as line workers, I'm not even going to argue about that, i just cant do that kind of work. I'd rather be a janitor. But i do want to say that all of the union factory jobs in my area are gone except for Atlantic Automotive, and they arent hiring. They just shut down our big Bosch plant, and all the other factories are cutting hours and mostly use temp workers.

You know what, thats a great idea. I'm going to look into that.

Besides being a ########, thats actually part of why i posted this. I want to start a home business that involves me being home a few nights a week.

I dont want to go back to school forever to be an RN. And the jobs that dont require much schooling are pretty much as ridiculous as the trucking industry for new people. For an example, there are medical assistant mills that advertise on TV that will train you to be a medical assistant in a very short period of time, let you do an externship, and then just dump you off with a little bit of help finding a job. The jobs arent there because they're training so many of these people. There are good gigs but they're hard to find.

....Looks like i need to be a limo driver. Atleast i'll be able to use my license for it! I'll keep my hazmat too because soon it will be required to transport certain people. :)

If you could get your foot in the door... Railroading. Right now there are more laid off than working though. UP alone has over 4500 laid off or furloughed in just transportation so don't get your hopes up.

Expect to earn between $20,000-$60,000 a year and after a good while $175,000+. I know a few old road engineers that are pulling much higher than $175k but it takes awhile. I've been conducting for a little over a year, have my engineers license, and I earn somewhere in between. Some days its not worth the pay though. Not worth it at all. AND I hella miss driving. Everyday.

You can still get interviews and even still get hired on right now... but expect to work about 3 months and get furloughed. I know guys that have been furloughed from NS and UP since back in 2007.

Well, I guess you're just SOL brother. Nissan isn't union, I guess that's how they can afford a full time janitor.

And they "technically" aren't hiring at all right now. But, if you'll come down and rub elbows with the right person. He/She can get you a job there.

Well why didn't you say what you wanted ? We'd have to know what services are needed in your area . I once had a job where I worked 12 hour shifts alternating 3 days 1 week and 4 the next . I bought a good mobile pressure washing setup and built up a good business .
I posted before on a taxi service that bought a wheelchair van and got so busy they had to buy a second . This wasn't a medical transport . It was just a taxi service for people that were disabled but didn't need constant medical attention . The cost of adapting a new van to transport a wheel chair costs over $15,000 but good used vans can be found for under $15,000 .
I know a guy that installs gas space heaters sold buy a local hardware store and he can't stay caught up with the orders .
People aren't spending money like they used to but some services can still be profitable .
