Looking to get my CDL in Houston Texas. Who's a good company to sign up with? I've looked at Steven's Transport so far. Any others I should consider?

Good choice. Pay is not top dollar. But training and safety is top notch. Great place to put in your first year.

    FFE is also in TX

Invest in a pair of steel toe or composite toe work boots/shoes.
I recommend pull-on boots that cover the ankles.
I bought mine at Boot Barn, but there's probably a dozen places that sell good quality ones.

WDT is mentioned a lot but I wish a driver from there would post on here. There isn't much first hand info on here about them.

Texas, you say? Check out Raider Express. Paid training, no contract, no obligation. $2,500 completion bonus when you finish training. Drivers average $70k their first year. 40% of their drivers stick around after their first year. That's about 5x the rate of the average training company. Drivers average $80,685 after their first year.

I buy my boots there too. But word to the wise.....check the steel toe in both boots!

I bought an extra pair I could start breaking in around the house before I had to run full time in them on location. I was working them for a couple months before I realized they weren't steel toes. Now keep in mind, I bought them in the steel toe section. Well it was too late to return them, so I bought another pair. Checked a boot - steel toe. Good to go. Couple months later, I found out that only ONE OF THEM had a steel toe. I went ahead and worked those boots for about two years until I worked a hole in the side of one about the size of a quarter. I had my wife order the same set from Boot Barn, because I love these boots. On my fifth set now. Anyways the boots get to the house and they aren't steel toe!! She had to order another pair and have them sent to Boot Barn to make the exchange and finally get a set that actually had steel toes.

After I bought that first set that had no steel toes at all, I told them about it at Boot Barn. They gave me that puzzled look like "you're a F'n idiot", and proceeded to check out some boots in that section. By the time they were done, I bet they had fifty or sixty boots on the floor that didn't have steel toes.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but check your boots before you buy them.

@Chinatown what's that boot on the right? I like it.
