Just got a job and in training at a fuel haul company . Everything super simple so far compared to vendor cdl jobs work before .

my only question is (which I don’t want to ask trainer because I want to get out of training asap to make money )
Trainer always say fill 100 gal less in each compartment
is there a app/tool you can use to make it easier when filling each department to add up gallons ? (Say filling up 8000 gal of diesel into reps with 3000,2500,1500, ect compartments) to make it easier?

Normally the compartments are marked around a 100 gallons less than full capacity. Check with your trailer shop.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

That is the kind of thing you need to ask.

DOT Specifications limit the capacity [the manway collar protrudes into the tank a bit] and the scully floats should be set even lower BUT every manufacturer and company sets things up their own way so ASK.

He wants you to short by 100 gal to avoid any possibility of having the product hit one of the floats and shutting the rack down.

They don't like it when you do that.

Remember that the rack is pushing around 1500 gal a minute so a shutdown causes a major disruption holding up the trucks behind you as god and man come out to tell you you went bad and then go through the whole scenario to re-start you. The compartment sizes are recorded and available. The trailer spec plate has them listed too, but may show more capacity than the actual float setting...

That's a real piss poor way of doing things. You need to know how to do your job CORRECTLY! Not rush through to get away from training pay. You're on here asking these questions, and not your trainer. That's BS. If you're rushing to get off of training, dont haul fuel. In fact, do us all a favor and go flip burgers.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Your trainer is there for a purpose. You are expected to ask questions. Don't be in such a hurry to get out on your own in a business you don't really understand.
Of all the different kinds of trucking, tanker and haz-mat work is the most un forgiving.
