Yep, that's a good one alright. The dealer I got my truck from couldn't give me a temp plate, because the truck no longer belonged to them - but they did offer to deliver it to my place. I waited until I had it leased on, all my filings squared away, and a temp tag in the window. Then put the numbers on the truck before it was under a load (and before I had to run through a scale).

yeah, i think i'll do that.. there's a website that shows all of the scales in a state so i'll just find the one's i might go by and call and see what they say.. dont really want to get in the truck and start driving and get there and they be like "you were driving without such in such?" kinda like when the police ask you if you knew how fast you were going.. never reply with the speed i was at before the radar detector went off..

That's exactly right, and you also never want to tell them you didn't know how fast you were going - that's the WORST answer (ignorance). I've always answered with something like "yes, I do officer, the speedometer was showing XX miles per hour - what speed did you observe?".

Of course you have to take into consideration the fact that I never actually tell them how fast I was going (as I don't know when they clocked me, or how I was observed at that time). That would be an admission of guilt. The answer of XX miles per hour is always 3 to 6 mph over the speed limit. If I was clocked over that, in this case, it is alot easier to explain speeding as "improper or faulty equipment". Due to the fact that speedometers are not calibrated regularly, you can usually get a speeding fine reduced with this explanation.

I'm also a member of Drivers Legal Plan, thanks to witnessing alot of unnecessary tickets over the years and the fact that only an attorney can get a ticket dismissed or reduced in most states. You can check them out online with a google search, it's very reasonable considering the options.

I was wondering what I all needed to do to become an owner operator? I was thinking alot about purchasing a truck and trailer and running loads off of a load board. Could someone help me figure out how do i get started..Thank you.:biggrin_25515:

It's real easy... use the search function in this forum. There's also plenty of good threads docked here too. If you use the search function, you'll find an abundance of information because that question has been asked and answered countless times.
    Good luck to you!

at the beginning of this thread it mentioned the RS-1 and RS-2 forms.. i know the RS-2 form has to do with the SingleStateRegistration.. but since the UCR has taken over does that mean i can omit the RS-1, and -2 from my list of things i need to do? My state (Florida) has yet to associate its self with the UCR.. the lady on the phone aint say much about the single state registration but did say that i had to register with the UCR and since Florida is not apart of it i have to go to the next closest state that does participate in the UCR which will be Georgia or Alabama.. any one know who i can call to ask about the single state registration? so this is long winded.. i just like to put out as much information as possible..

It's been said before, and needs to be said again. The only freight on the load boards is usually the leave behinds that are too low for anyone to run. That said, with some research you should be able to find freight worth pulling through the boards, it just takes alot of calling and questions. You'll get lucky on some of them and get the rate increased if you go about it with facts and persistence.

I've been using the IRP office down in Atlanta, on Tradeport Ave. - usually if you're nice, they'll be helpful (although a few have been worthless at times). Their office number is (404) 675-6135, and they're open 8a-4:45p M-F excluding any govt holidays.

Ugh...you don't wanna run freight off the load boards these days. Get in with a couple of good shippers that you've pulled for before and liked...usually they can keep you busy and you can negotiate your rate directly with them.
