You might consider Danny Herman, they have longer runs and they don’t go to the East coast which is a good thing. If you have the money pay for the CDL school yourself so you’re not locked into a contract. Best of luck!

You give any thought to what kind of trailer you’d like to pull? You prefer to not get any dirt on you? Or not mind getting down and dirty….

I have my own authority and do my own thing, and to be honest I enjoy my lowboy more than my flat.

As mentioned earlier get your license and spend some time with a company before you spend $$ on a truck then find you don’t like it.

I’ve always enjoyed trucking myself. I bought this truck off the computer with a blown engine. Spent 18 months building it basically from the ground up. Had less than $20K in it when I was done. But I do 100% of my own mechanical work, paying some shop would make you want to hurt yourself lol.

Oh, I didn’t just jump in to trucking, I started back in the 80’s….

 

...i would find a friend and ask to be inside the truck with him for a week or so ...see if you change your mind ...if you surely like it - get CDL and move on

 

I would look for more cross country runs like companies who average trip is 1,800 and up miles. I liked driving cross country that was the fun part of the job. The company or dispatcher basically control your days. They tell you when to pickup a load and when it deliverers. It's your job to to both on time.

If you're loading and have 1800 miles to delivery they should give you 3 days to drive it at 600 miles a day. Since everyone is running electronic log books, parking is more of a problem at end of day. Lots of the TA and Petro truck stop restaurants closed. I stopped at Love's in PA the Subway was closed on the weekends now. So basically no food to eat at that Love's on the weekend. The roads seem to keep getting more bumpy.

The shipping rates have been very high for 5 years. I would not be surprised if they drop back down again. If your looking to O/O. Just know the rates have been very hight for several years now.

Seattle, WA to Miami, FL is one Leonard's does.

 

San Jacinto Community College in Pasadena has a good CDL program.
