Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Well my day came to a screeching halt earlier than expected. This took place at the 230 mm before the scales on top of Cabbage. I’m one of a couple trucks that safely took an off ramp with my 2900 pounds. Had a couple first responders check on us to make sure we had supplies because they are talking 12-16 hours before it’s cleaned up.

As of 0530, westbound is still shut down because there isn’t enough big wreckers to move all the wrecked trucks away. They’re saying late this afternoon. Eastbound was opened about 3am with escorts. For those that might question why not go around, there’s isn’t any way. There’s 2 roads but are not suitable for big trucks. If I knew about this in Boise, I would have gone up 95 through Lewiston and into Post Falls. But they were having the same weather as here and that road is only a 2 lane, but this happened just as I was coming into Baker City. The overhead sign said road closed at the 304mm, I got off and got a spot at the Baker Truck Corral. There’s now 200 trucks packed in a lot that holds 75. I needed a reset when I was done with this load, I’ll finish one here and leave early tomorrow morning. The weather is suppose to clear open a window tonight. I’ll drop Spokane tomorrow and Prineville Thursday.

 

Apparently safety heard about this and called the couple trucks in the area to check on us. Told them I was full of fuel, plenty of water and groceries, and have unlimited data. Nice jester on their part. I’m good.
