    Why?

I have a reason to ask.
    no.

I’ve done a few of these in the past, there are two ways of doing this depending on the state.

both are about the same lines with the cab vin tag being the one used by the cops to verify the serial number for a new title.

the first is put it together and if you have a title for the truck with the cab, then use it, no one is going to care about the frame if you have an inspection unless the truck was stolen.

the second is an assembled title, which can be a pia. You have to have proof the parts were purchased or used from another vehicle.

When I had an assembled truck, they used to cab vin to run to check if it was stolen or not.

it isn’t complicated and I doubt the cops will care enough to look at the frame when you can tell them where you got it.

When I had to order a new frame from western star, they didn’t stamp the vin in the frame, the frame was punched to the specs of the wheel base and there were additional holes drilled for the mounts like the extra fuel tank and batteries.

I’m just wondering, as I like to find loopholes in laws.

Would you happen to know the cost of doing a frame rail replacement?

Look at that decal. It says Chassis number. There is no number on a cab except the part #. See what happens at the scale if the VIN on the registration doesn’t match the one on the frame, no matter what might be on the cab. One of my KW’s has had a cab change, the last 6 of the original VIN is right on it behind the door like all of them. Who cares, the registration matches the number on the frame. That’s the one that counts. Tear the decal off the door frame and see where they go to identify the truck.

We used to rebuild wrecked KW’s and Pete’s as a side job sorta. We would buy a late model wreck with a repairable frame. Then go to the salvage yard and get an older cab strip it to the shell put everything out of the wrecked cab in it, paint it use the left door jam if possible off the newer truck and the vin plate by the door. Course it was titled as the newer truck with a red title.
