Been with the company only 3 months. Already had one non preventable accident not even two weeks ago. That one wasn't my fault.
Last night had I to drop a trailer on a steam pad at a tank wash. 3 am, very dark and a narrow space that I had to back into. While backing up slowly I heard my trailer make contact with another trailer. I didn't think there was any damage because I was going so slow.
Well I just found out today that the damage was reported by the owner of the other trailer.
The damage is minor bent damage on metal fender that guards the wheel.
My driver manager called and said unfortunately I have to report it to accident department. They also sent me pictures of the damage.
Pray for me
Had a minor accident. My fault. Scared I'm gonna get fired.

IDK what you expect, but if I owned that trailer I certainly would expect the responsible to pay for it.

Dark and narrow and you didn't get out and look? Didn't even think to check for damage? No excuse for either but I hope you learned something.
You may offer to pay for the damages.77fib77, God prefers Diesels, Aamcotrans and 13 others Thank this. -

Schneider's not going to fire you on a first preventable accident for something minor like this, and there's no need for you to pay for it yourself. I know of people who've had two and even three minor accidents in the first few months that are still employed. The bigger problem is not checking for damage and reporting it. If they think you intentionally didn't report damage, that would be grounds for termination. Just tell them what happened and I think you'll still be fine on this one. Lesson learned.

You know with my company, they have me pick up these intermodal trailers every day, and every day I always see bent damages on them worse than what i did. So I'm hoping that might be grounds for them keeping me on the company. As far as the other trailer owner forsure im responsible.Boondock Thanks this. -

Is that really how close you had to back in next to the other trailer?

I recently did the same thing. I paid for the repair. Hopefully they’ll let you pay. It’s done. Can’t change that. It’s really a very minor thing. I don’t think they should fire you. If they do. More Jobs out there to be found.
