I got offered a spot with Sheridan LG. Can anyone tell me if this is as good a company as it seems? I have about three or four years of step deck and flatbed experience mostly hauling equipment but have no RGN experience. I'm hoping to change that with these guys. Also, the pay is 22%of net line haul, minus permit costs. I only took a % one other time hauling hay in CA. That was 25% of the gross load, but having no idea what hay went for, (I didn't even realize how many different types there were), I have no idea if I was doing good or getting screwed. I guess I still don't know if I'm asking whether 22% is a good amount or not. And now that everybody seems to be going 1099 guess I'll have to start figuring out taxes too. I'll save that for another forum. Any inside information would be appreciated, thanks ahead of time! Keep it shiny side up Brothers and Sisters!

I'm going to move this to the Heavy Haul section. There's some guys there that can answer your questions.

My question goes like this….
If the company can’t afford to pay employees as employees, but instead chooses to try and short legal responsibilities- how likely are they to follow the myriad of rules and regulations required to safely operate a heavy haul operation?
Do you really want to risk your license, finances and safety?
you will not be covered by workman’s compensation insurance a 1099 contractor.
running without the proper permits can result in extraordinary fines - written to the driver.
Good luck! -

It seems like everyone, eventually, is headed for 1099 as a direct result of AB5. This company is a major military contract hauler. Course with the Talking Head in the WH, that could mean a war or total military dismemberment. Feast or famine?
seawind Thanks this. -
They're going to pay the driver 22% on 1099 after permit costs?
Am I missing something here or is this guy getting hosed?
Rugerfan Thanks this. -
That's why I was asking when I was hauling hay I was getting 25% of the load and that was on a W-2

No truly legitimate company is “moving toward” or ever has paid employees on a 1099. That’s called tax fraud.
