The point is more money on less miles. As an owner you should be chasing dollars not miles, chasing miles is a company hands job.
I would bet if you sat down and compared honest numbers, a “local” guy would net more on 60,000mi than you would 100,000mi. He also gets to enjoy a life at home as an added perk.

Your location is good. I’d probably run van or reefer though vs flat bed.
There are some good examples here but you also could have ran 130k miles and grossed 450k.
That’s not the norm if you look at history but I’d you look at the last couple years then quite doable.
Like people have said, chase money not miles but if it’s a gangbusters market then chase money and miles. Then, chill during the bad times and reduce the miles I’d you’d like.
A lot of people chill during the great times because they can, but then have to burn miles during the crap times because they didn’t save up. It’s somewhat counter intuitive. -

When I asked why someone would have a giant stretched out long Hood in the Northeast, I was told that truck can go anywhere a short truck can go. I was told that it's easier to back in that big giant colossal turd than a small truck. I was told that so what if you're going to run over Concrete Construction barriers just put old tires on and keep buying them. I was told that the petro bilt and the belt buckle that goes with it does not adhere to the laws of physics and if you know how to drive you can back it anywhere. I was told that anywhere you could put a moped you can put that worthless behemoth.
You guys need to have a union meeting and get your story straight.
So now you have a yung'un that you can teach him the ways of the belt buckle. You need to do your best to convert him before Common Sense sets in and he realizes what's what.
You need to teach him that if he stares directly into the belt buckle it will hypnotize him into thinking that as long as there's a certain name on it he'll pay anything for it. Don't worry about practicality or the laws of physics or cost of running a business, that goes out the window as long as you have the belt buckle.
That makes sense.
By the way I saw a hood for sale. I think it was for a 389 for $17,000. The guys that were commenting on it said that's a great deal because from the dealer it's $21,000.
Now that's a practical truck to buy. Who doesn't have $21,000 for a hood?

I run local and regional, my local run is picking up jbhunt empties all around the rail yard area. Bobtail 8 miles from the rail yard, pickup an empty at any given receiver, they pay me $120 per empty. Normally I’ll 6-10 a day, definitely tops up my eow net
