Not sure if I titled the post correctly, as a tanker driver who gets paid a percentage of the load how would you know what the cost of the load is? What prevents a company from charging 2k to for the load but telling the driver that its 1800? Are these companies audited to prevent skimming some money off the top or are you left to trust what they tell you? Any way for you as the driver to check what the rate is to haul dry bulk and adhesives?

If you are paid % of the gross your contract should have something covering this.

if you think you are a driver being paid % you have no legal standing...funny how that may work, I knew a truck owner, had 5 and some trailers too. competition forced him to lower prices and he dipped into his cut to keep his driver's pay the same....watched his oldest guy get mad saying I worked for Jim for 12 years, never a raise when he quit....go figure.

12% is a common percentage. You would have to look at your pay stub and do some figuring. Heaven forbid people be honest.

You would need to know what the company charged to haul it though, unless I'm not understanding something.

Every once and a while as a company driver you might see a freight rate……

That’s your only hope of checking up on them……

Ask your carrier for the rate sheet. If you signed a confidentiality agreement and/or an NDA then they should have no problem providing it to you.

If they won't, you can make your own rate sheet from looking at your settlements and working the math backwards.

Just remember that your percentage is calculated on the linehaul revenue, not the total charge for the load.

Most companies that pay percentage around here are in the 20-30% range
