So I went through the stages of being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I went on my own accord, not because of a DOT examiner making me.

Anyways, after sleep study, I renewed my med card and then she said I had to go for sleep study. Little did she know I already had one.

I now finally have my machine and having a hard time with compliance as I’ve only had it for 3 weeks and takes time to get used to.

My concern is that I’m moving to Florida from NY next month and will obviously be getting a job there. Im assuming they will require new medical card as most new jobs do.

My concern in that eventually I WILL be in compliance by then (4hrs a night 70%of the time). But I use it while I’m napping also so my usage is broken up throughout the day. Do the examiners look at if your usage is broken up or only if you have the 4hrs a day??

also, would they even know that I was told get a sleep study from a DOT examiner in Ny??

When getting new med card don’t volunteer any information about your apnea diagnose it opens a big can of worms. 1st being one year card only. When you get used to the mask your quality of sleep will amaze you. In the future you only tell half truth when asked about sleeping you look them straight on and say I sleep fine.

If it feels like your not getting enough air with mask on you can turn up the machine pressure if you have a autoset or manual(one set pressure) machine. You can use humidifier and heated air hose to help make the air more humid and warm when sleeping.

The machine look at 24 hour day as to how much it is used. So napping and using the machine all adds up to the 4 hour a day compliance.

I'm guessing you have Reamed machine. They have an app for phone you can see you usage and they have compliance report on the app also. Other sleep machines should have app also.

I would say using a CPAP machine is like learning how to breath again kinda. Because of someone sleep apnea was really bad it takes time for body to realize it can relax at night without someone chocking. You should see your sleep Events dropping back down to the normal range of 4 or less per hour the more comfortable you get using it. When I got to less then 1 Event per hour it seems you really notice a big improvement.

I actually have a Resvent iBreeze 20A. I got the run around with insurance so I bought this one outright.

it has an SD card and I pop it in my laptop and I see all my data. I events are at 2 per hour but my compliance is 40% right now concerning the 4hrs a day.

I wasn’t sure though if the hours had to be consecutive or not. Thanks for answering that!

I get that, but what happens if they flag me for apnea and want me to get a sleep study. They will then know I lied about having been diagnosed

There is no mandate yet but some clinics act like it is (concentra) plus there’s no penalty for withholding information from the examiner.
