Latest Internet for Truckers ?

I know an old boss of mine did at one point run a full size pc(5-10 yrs ago)in his truck after he sold his company shares..He did it to dispatch himself...
Im sure there is a sattilite company that can suit your needs cause those big personal rv's have the domes on top for tv n such, your gonna need a big pure sine wave inverter to to run that gear..

TLDR version - lots of options with 4G cellular, satellite is coming soon (or now if you don't mind gambling).

My desktop is older, (16 cores/32 threads running 3.4 Ghz w/64 Gb RAM) but still draws less than 700 watts. My 43" 4K monitor only draws 70 watts peak. My microwave draws 1200 watts for comparison. As long as you're not running the desktop and the microwave at the same time you should be fine.

 

Just understand , anything you bring in that truck is going to be vibrated and bounced around all day everyday. Trucking life is tough on electronics for that reason. I would not bring anything on the road that you are not willing to break and replace. The other thing is you have to have storage and mounting for a desktop and monitor. That monitor is going to jiggle and vibrate on down the road. That is even if you have a mount in the truck for it.

 

Just get a TV that can hook up as a monitor if you are going that route. This will save room and you most likely already have the mount in the truck.

 

You would want a 5G phone or 5G hot spot. Depending on you phone plan modern cell phones have Hot Spot option but the data plan could have a limit. I'm using Straight Talk on Verizon side with a unlocked phone I got myself. Straight Talk has basically 60GB of data a month but only 15GB of Hot Spot on cellphone for $60 a month. Verizon or AT&T could have more unlimited data directly from them but probably more money.

The big future would be StarLink satellite internet by Elon Musk and Space X they are still setting it up so it have limited users right now. Starlight satellite internet it now $110 a month and like $500 for the dish and set up. It work at home and some RVs because people are reporting Starlink is now letting roaming. But is still a small satellite dish but RVs are reporting they can move and setup the dish and still have internet. So it nothing you can use when driving down the road yet but it's future. I read Delta airlines has just signed up Starlink for planes or they are still testing it.


You would definitely want solid state hard drive so no moving parts and a Pure Sine wave inverter to run computer on truck.

Something cool to see, more Starlink satellites for Internet being launched. The coolest part is seeing how Space X can land a rocket to be reused.
