My better half is coming back to OTR life after LONG absense & so is very out of touch.
He wants me onboard, but as I cant get a CDL I´d only be a rider.
He seems to think I can do my current graffic designer job onboard the rolling rig.
Is there really a satellite or other Internet service ( willing to pay ) that is that good?
What about the ability of the rig to handle the curret draw of a desktop and LARGE monitor?
I am sure no one here dealt with this same situation so guesses are welcome.
Thanks & hope this does not sound silly.

    Nashville Thanks this.

I know an old boss of mine did at one point run a full size pc(5-10 yrs ago)in his truck after he sold his company shares..He did it to dispatch himself...
Im sure there is a sattilite company that can suit your needs cause those big personal rv's have the domes on top for tv n such, your gonna need a big pure sine wave inverter to to run that gear..

You can check out internet options in these threads:

    Wi-Fi options in the truck
Internet options to play Second Life OTR

TLDR version - lots of options with 4G cellular, satellite is coming soon (or now if you don't mind gambling).

My desktop is older, (16 cores/32 threads running 3.4 Ghz w/64 Gb RAM) but still draws less than 700 watts. My 43" 4K monitor only draws 70 watts peak. My microwave draws 1200 watts for comparison. As long as you're not running the desktop and the microwave at the same time you should be fine.

Just understand , anything you bring in that truck is going to be vibrated and bounced around all day everyday. Trucking life is tough on electronics for that reason. I would not bring anything on the road that you are not willing to break and replace. The other thing is you have to have storage and mounting for a desktop and monitor. That monitor is going to jiggle and vibrate on down the road. That is even if you have a mount in the truck for it.

Just get a TV that can hook up as a monitor if you are going that route. This will save room and you most likely already have the mount in the truck.

You would want a 5G phone or 5G hot spot. Depending on you phone plan modern cell phones have Hot Spot option but the data plan could have a limit. I'm using Straight Talk on Verizon side with a unlocked phone I got myself. Straight Talk has basically 60GB of data a month but only 15GB of Hot Spot on cellphone for $60 a month. Verizon or AT&T could have more unlimited data directly from them but probably more money.

The big future would be StarLink satellite internet by Elon Musk and Space X they are still setting it up so it have limited users right now. Starlight satellite internet it now $110 a month and like $500 for the dish and set up. It work at home and some RVs because people are reporting Starlink is now letting roaming. But is still a small satellite dish but RVs are reporting they can move and setup the dish and still have internet. So it nothing you can use when driving down the road yet but it's future. I read Delta airlines has just signed up Starlink for planes or they are still testing it.

You would definitely want solid state hard drive so no moving parts and a Pure Sine wave inverter to run computer on truck.

First, let me suggest leaving the desktop at home & bringing a laptop. A tower for a desktop just isn't going to hold up in a truck. Laptops are made for such. I keep a laptop with me all the time & in the passenger seat with one of my GPS mapping systems on it. I would not even begin to entertain bringing a desktop system on a truck.

Now that that is out of the way, the best system I found (not saying its the best over all, just what I have used) is a Verizon JetPac. Its a stand alone hotspot. Its just a little small device that will fit in your hand. It has its own number & is considered a 2nd or 3rd line etc. I think I was paying like $10 for the extra line & $20 extra for unlimited WIFI but that was back in '05 - '07. The advantage of that is, its stand alone and you don't have to worry about using your phone for WIFI & taking calls at the same time although I really never experienced much issues with that, but did occasionally.
Verizon has the best coverage & less dropped signals than any other carrier I know of.
I would still have that but we bought a house out on the lake 4 years ago & Verizon doesn't work out here so I had to go with AT&T.... and I am not a happy camper about it but.... it is what it is. Now I just use the WIFI on my phone, but I only get 10 GB per month, I think, so I have to be careful how I use it.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

Really touched by all the busy drivers that took time to reply.
So, I am now looking for a 3K 24V pure sine wave inverter
& will try the Nomad internet service plus the max data plan
on our current US Mobile phone & see if either can handle it.
BTW, the PC is tough but 10 y/o and the monitor has a small crack.
I already have a decent mounting setup & if can get 6 mos life out of
    the electronics, that is fine.
LOL, I am more concerned about hubbys bad hip getting bounced on the rig than my hardware.

    Siinman Thanks this.

Something cool to see, more Starlink satellites for Internet being launched. The coolest part is seeing how Space X can land a rocket to be reused.
