So today I found out that my engine is a MBN, but the ecm serial number is a 2WS. It was rebuilt by kenworth in 2018 platinum rebuilt
with new ecm. Because I have original overhaul paperwork so I called to get previous details. Ain’t it weird that maybe the previous owner flashed the ecm without changing any components. I ordered the overhaul kit. But confused if I should change the ecm to original or should I just keep the ecm the way it is

On my former Cat was/is an original 5EK series, with 1LW brakesaver file, and the ECM when hooked up to the Cat ET read 2WS series. The reason for the 2WS reading was only to prolong the state of Commiefornia with my DPF to 2020. I do remember I had to replace and injector at one time, so I called Peterbilt with the VIN number, picked up the injector without having it remove from the engine, so to my surprise, during the rebuilt before I owned it, they had swapped for bigger injectors, had to go back to Peterbilt to get the same injector that came out.

I won't go to deep on this topic but If the ECM is reading a 2WS serial (possibly someone attempting to skirt e-log rules, though in vain.) it is hard to say exactly what motor configuration is in your truck without looking at it, but most likely being a MBN originally it is running a tune for a 6NZ which will run way better and get better fuel mileage than any of the actual MBN tunes will do.

I see it shows to have flash file 2707122 in it which would be a 6NZ file as I suspected, I would keep what you have for the ECM.

Wouldn’t that be odd that he says it had a dealer rebuild and they didn’t catch the difference in the ECM ?
