That's the same way I was trained. I learned hard and fast just like he is doing. That's what I wanted though and it built up my confidence and skills fast.
Once the training is over and you're running solo you'll get more sleep and rest than you want. You'll be looking at your watch and swearing because you can't get back on the road right now and have to wait until the break or rest period is over.

As for the cough, might be stale air inside the cab causing it. You and the trainer breathing and exhaling the same air.
I use Ricola cough drops and that works for me. Can get sugar-free if you prefer. Several different flavors with or without sugar. Can buy at Walmart. Can also order online from Walmart Online Shopping.

Here's a pro tip. You're a team driver. You're not in training at all. It's just forced teaming.
Actual training means you have the same schedule as the trainer and they're watching what you're doing and not on their phone the whole time.

The trainer runs the AC 24hrs a day at max, all day and night. I wear a coat to deal with it. I adjusted the temp one time and got lambasted, so I have left it alone. I thought it was just me and my age(59), but now looking at the responses from you and all the others who took the time to reply and I am now a little pissed OFF

You're going pretty hard. It takes more out of you than you think.

Try to sleep as much as you can, which I know is a B in a moving truck.

Good point. I liked the naughty word, whatever it was.
The trainer works for whoever cuts him a check.
And he'll do whatever that company tells him to do.
If backflips are included in his contract, then he'll do backflips.
The trainee is there to train.
He should ask for an immediate trainer replacement.
In all my trainings, the trainees were asked to quote my performance too.
One trainee requested to be flown back home and he was flown immediately.
That's what I call a good employer. KLLM should take care of the situation in a NY minute.
End of story. He's such a shmuck.

Driving and navigating to truck stops changing interstate highways and just being in traffic with the maniac car drivers is learning. Doing all of that while the trainer sits silently in the passenger seat looking at his phone is also learning.

How is the OP going to learn enough about Schneider to make a responsible decision to quit halfway through this training period? Everybody has an excuse for quitting. Quitting is usually not a shortcut to success.

Yes, I am not a quitter, and yes, quitters have a long list blaming everyone but themselves. I have learned a lot in the ways you described above, absolutely. Apparently, my trainer is confident enough to sleep while I drive through the night.

The shortest route to a better situation is finish the training with your current trainer and company and life will be better when you are in your solo truck. This is the hardest period for most drivers in their career. You don't have much control over your schedule, or anything else. In the 8 weeks I was with my trainer, I only got more than 2 continuous hours of sleep if we got a hotel room. I just could not sleep well at all in the moving truck. No matter how tired I was I would either wake up after every big pothole or just randomly wake up and not be able to get back to sleep.

It will get better. Try to eat anything but fat and sugar and keep drinking water. Good luck, it's hard for everyone at first.
