Poor maintenance, haphazard inspections, bad roads, they all add up. They accelerate the wear schedule and things start breaking before they should.
I used to work for a guy that insisted we run legal weight or as close to it as possible. He figured the extra wear and tear on the machinery wasn't worth the little bit of extra revenue when you figure in the downtime and unavailability of the equipment. How about how old is the trailer? When I ran the pneumatic setup we had, got bored during an unload, and looked at the data plates for both the trailer and the pup. Both were almost as old as I am, and I ain't young.
Bet a soda the build date on that is 76/77/78.
