It's been 37 years in July married, 45 together. Neither of us has left, though I keep trying by going back on the road.We agree, we get along best, when we're not in the same room...but at this point in my life, I couldn't go through this again, either...so I guess I'll stay where I am, for now.
It was an amazing transformation for her, believe me. When I first started out with Swift, I was away from home for 3 months. She called all the time..."The Sky Is Falling", so I was diagnosing a problem or giving instructions over the phone. When I got home, finally she was actually happy to see me.Next 2 months out, less calls, but still keeping in touch...come home, still happy to see me, but not as happy.
Next time out...1.5 months..I'm home for a week...and she's asking me "Isn't it time for you to go back on the road?" So as you can see, our relationship seems strongest, when we're apart...like when I was home working off shifts...hardly see each other, get along fine...get on the same shift...and it's fireworks...so I don't know if this is happiness, but it is what it is...and we're still together ...and alive..
Her parents were the same way, and they celebrated their 50th when we were dating, so I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I have to say it's my sense of humor that has kept us together...because my wife has none. <g,d,r>Last edited: May 7, 2022

It's not that we don't have little hope for them, it's the fact that these things will happen, regardless of what you think. It's a statistical probability. I myself was told I may never see the age of 25...this was at 20. I called the person when I turned 25....they suggested I call in another 5 years. Blew my mind...but it was a fact. Unless I changed my ways by hook or by crook and with the Grace of God...I'd be one of those early statistics. Those dumb decisions you mention. We hope for the best...but we're aware of the reality.Today, I'm 65 heading for 66. Something changed. It was me. And I was grateful to have the Grace of God with me, to do it.
