Unless you're an ex-felon, don't go running or working on a trash truck. Maybe go work for a construction company running trucks for them then get into the trades again?

Only problem is layoffs. It's a great gig if u have steady work. But being laid off for 6 months in between jobs isnt the most fun. Well, maybe for some guys it is. All depends on what kind of person you are.

Go be a yard truck driver.

That's what I've been doing 3 12 hour shifts to scratch my trucking itch.

I love driving a truck I just don't want to be a full time trucker anymore. I work at a company with super good benefits and super good discounts.

What about a temp drivers service? I've heard they are great to get lots of different experience and you won't be job hopping

Depends on a person's financial situation and responsibilities. I took 3 months off the other year but still outperformed 95% of drivers at the company I worked for.

It's all about what you want.

    Waterman_99 and GYPSY65 Thank this.

When I came off the road from a mega, I worked for a temp service for a couple months. Got to try lots of different jobs, places were always helpful knowing I was a temp and didn't know the routine. Went from there to a CDL school. Funny, drivers talk smack about the schools, but I had a good time for 1 1/2 years teaching. I made it my mission to teach as much as I could to set the new drivers up for success vs just teaching them to get a license. Now, I am putting my military experience and years in the transportion field to use. I am the operations manager for a smallish trucking company.
