I have been driving for Estes for 12 years. Heard all the hype of Walmart’s new pay and decided to apply. They called me back for an interview and job offer. Now I love working at Estes. Get weekends off, have seniority and it’s a great company. Question I guess, do you guys think Walmart is better than LTL?

While I think Waly is a better place, I don't buy their advertised salaries. In many cases, companies use their absolute best drivers, during one of their best years,( possibly team amounts) and I read Walmart pays about the same as most other companies. Thing with Walmart vs. any freight company, with "Sam",,you'll have a job into the next millenium, Estes, not so much.

Like I said I wasn’t really looking, I just applied to see what would happen. I guess I’m a good candidate since I have a clean record, all endorsements and tenure at a good company. I had no idea that Walmart slip seats. Not too crazy about that. I like that Estes doesn’t micromanage their drivers. I get .7725 cpm here and like I said home every other day and weekends. Before working here I applied at Walmart and didn’t hear back, and I always wanted to driver for them. Thx guys

The salaries are correct, you have to be lazy, and try extra hard not to make what is advertised, many make more. Now the downside. The op will give up all seniority he had at Estes , which means no weekends off, not being home daily, slip seating trucks, etc. Don't plan on getting weekends off for the foreseeable future takes most guys 7+years to get.

You don’t slip seat at Estes? I thought LTL drivers usually slip seat with the night line haul driver.

Either way, sounds like you are in a pretty good position at Estes. I’d stay there.

I don’t since I do a lay down run. I figured why move. I make around $98k here. Just thought the benefits were pretty good at Walmart

If it were me, and I liked where I'm working, I'd stay. I don't necessarily believe in making a move to another job unless forced, or its just meeting your needs. It's always tempting to listen to other offers, but if you have built yourself up at Estes, why blow it up?

I guess I just got caught up with the hype. The more I think about what I have now and how much I like the company I feel like making a move would be dumb.
