Way too many people texting and facebooking while driving for me to ride a bike anymore.

I’ve had many fender benders , minor accidents , none my fault . But on a bike they would have been deadly.

My 2005 4wd expedition gets 11 in town and 16 on the interstate .
Wife’s Mini Cooper gets in the low 30s but no room for the luggage and dogs

most people agonize over the mpg but I its the depreciation that really cost the money

My neighbor drives a lot and for the last 20 years he’s used 91-97 Thunderbirds or cougars .
They are V8 rear wheel drive so they are easy to work on . And share parts with many millions of Ford’s so the parts are cheap

he gets the nicest one he can find for under $2k
    Replaces the tires brakes
Shocks ball joints radatior and fan and installed a nice stereo .
Drives the wheels off of it for several years and when it finally conks out or gets wrecked and isn’t worth repairing he just finds another one and keeps the former one for a parts car.
Having an identical parts car in the backyard saves tons of money .
He also removes the plastic bumper covers and fills the honeycomb with cement and puts them Back on .

Some dingus that’s texting or facebooking and runs a light , not much damage to his cement filled bumpers

I wanted to do that with my 78 skylark.
But after picking up my 77. And finding out the 2 same motors were actually different. Odd firing vs even firing. And the body parts falling apart.

    Decided it wasn't worth it.

Even old boats lose their appeal.

That was my plan 15 years ago when I bought an 3 yr old Ranger instead of a new truck. Almost 400,000km on it and I haven’t got to the haul it to the junkyard part yet.

My first car I paid 750 for 01 sonata with 135k on it and I put another 100k on it. Did nothing major other than suspension work. Saw it a few years later at the junkyard smashed up on the side but said motor/trans still good Lol. After that I bought butt ### ugly 1990 Ford Taurus for 300 and ran that around for a few years to Ohio and back when I was working out there. Didn't put a dime in it. That was a really comfortable ride like a boat Lol

Probably the condition as mine, the ac lines running to back are more than likely plugged, from either corrosion at one or more connections, or stopped up from using refrigerant that has stop leak or something like that. Cost was in the neighborhood of $1,500.00, and that was 5 years ago.
