Hi everyone, new to the site.

I have a 2000 Pete with a 3406E CAT, serial # 2WS35715, Its been turned up to a 550 and then some with 6999 codes. three months ago lost boost and some power (boost was 40) now its 30 to 33lbs. I've been to five different shops including the cat house and all is fine. I put a new stage 3 michigan turbo, new air to air, new couplers, and a #5 injector. Recently it made a thump sound like it sucked air which it has done before. Now the EGT's will run 900 degrees doing 70 with an empty refer. Now their telling me that it needs injectors or a new ECM. I've checked air to air, turbo, couplers fuel lines, fuel pressure, I don't know what to try next if i do have to put injectors should i go with the 59's or the 58's? I'm thinking of going with the 59's.

any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated it.

When you say you checked the turbo, did you pull the cartridge to inspect the hot wheel for damage? If you want to be able to pass a smoke test, install the 58's.

i pulled the air side of the turbo not the exhaust side. Well i dont run to California mostly midwest and down to Texas so i think i'd be ok.

So with changing the injectors to 59's would I have to reflash my ECM?

i have 58's in my truck and im happy with them, but the idle is kinda rough with them if you idle while sleeping, it gets smoother if you turn the fan on. i dont think i would go with 59's myself but if you are looking for BIG power go for it.:biggrin_255: from what i read on here you would need a MI stage 5 to to run them well.. you wont find a any stock motor that will run with the 58's tho :biggrin_25525:

no, you dont have to reflash but i would find your problem first, 900degr now empty, put 59's in without finding your problem first.... sure way to melt er down..... not tryin to insult but most dont realize just how MUCH smoke 59's produce... 58's come real close in power to the 9s with alot less smoke... all that smoke is just unburned fuel... but it does look cool... ive got 59s, 58s, 57s, accert inj and a flowed set of 57s.... tried them all in many differnt setups, my fav for everyday runnin is fld 57s... this is just my opinion im sure others may dissagree.... just clicked post then saw your reply 379cat, hafta agree with ya....

I have been running the 58's for almost a year. I feel that they are a great upgrade over stock . They are rumored to flow 20% over stock 57's. The 59's are said to flow 50% over stock 57's. That is a 30% difference in flow between 58's and the 59's....not a small difference. The 58's can sometimes idle a little "lopey" (as stated above). The 58's can usually be done as a free upgrade as well if you are doing injectors anyway. The 57's and the 58's are in the same core class so the 57's qualify as a core for the 58's. Now to go to the 59's...you're going to be spending ALOT more money. When I did mine 59's are considered a special injector... so alot more money to buy and no core. If I had to do it again I would stay with the 58's...I have been happy with them. If you need more fuel after that do it another way ....ie, Pitts Box, PDI ecm, different CAT program etc.

The 59 injector should have been the same core family. They will be more money due to not a truck part number.

    DDS,

Sorry, I should clarify. While the 58's and 59's "should" be in the same core class , the 57's are not listed as ACCEPTABLE cores for the 59's. They were in a different grouping...at least that was the case when I researched it. 57's and 58's were listed together in same class so could be interchanged as far a cores go but he 59's would need a 59 core for credit. So if one was upgrading from a 57, the 58's could be done as a free upgrade as the 57 cores would be acceptable and the price was the same as if you were putting the stock injectors in. Whereas with the 59's .....your stock 57's wouldn't qualify for the 59 core and you would be buying the 59's w/o core....all out of pocket. At least that was the story where I am when I wanted to do it....maybe it is different in different areas or who you know.
