Your company can send a mobile inspector out
    Check
Should be able to email you a copy of registration that you can print off
    Check

I assume that should take care of the issue

Trailer inspections are $40 in Houston.
I was hauling a load to Alaska with a different companies trailer, got to the weigh station in Tok,couldn't find the registration on the trailer as it was covered in 6 inches of ice.The officer looked up the license number online and found it.Everything was ok.It was -30 and chipping the ice off wasn't an option.

They pulled it in the shop and let it thaw out overnight, after I got to Fairbanks,we found the registration the next morning.I had to get an Alaska temp tag for the truck ,$350,and $10 for the temp Alaska trailer tag.

Not trading barbs with you. This kind of attitude is what causes the problems that impact safety and the industry. The question he's asking is basic "PreTrip" requirements. You know, those things you're supposed to check before you drive a vehicle? If you have a CDL, then you've read and been tested on this aspect, and if you haven't, then turn your license in. This isn't rocket science or something that you need to be trained on, this is basic before you drive the vehicle stuff. The fact that you make this statement, and his that he isn't subject to the ELD in his business lets me know that no one has actually read the training book that requires the issuance of a CDL nor the DOT book they're supposed to know. If you have a CDL, you are required to know this. If you don't, then why is he here asking questions or you trying to defend his lack of this knowledge...that we now know..he's a '24 year driver'. When that CDL is issued, you're supposed to know these 'simple' things. Lacksadaisical attitude to the industry, is why they want to replace you with automatons. If you don't have a CDL, then you won't have to drive one of those vehicles that is required to pull into a weigh station that he's asking about. Which means if he's wondering about getting pulled in, then he has a CDL and these are requirements.

Echoing the others responses here, if they aren't up to date on the inspections, registrations and available, this is a big tell. One employer on day one, I downed a trailer that not only didn't have a registration...it had another trailer's registration. Do these things happen. Yes. By people that are paper pushers that are clueless, but they aren't supposed to get past an actual operator. You asked, I told, you didn't like the way I typed it. Too bad. Taking this crap serious is what keeps you out of trouble and keeps a clean record. People not taking their jobs serious enough..well that's another story as well. Sayonara.

Yes the “LAW” says you gotta have one. So few are actually inspected right it’s a joke. You call a mobile guy out to do an inspection he is gonna up sell. Biggest trick in the book is say brakes and drums are bad. Hit with that gravy money and left the slacks, s/cams and bushings that’s are actual problem for the home shop. Cause that stuff is more time consuming when a set a brakes is 250 profit a wheel end. My point is why get raped by a mobile guy just to have a sticker when the home shop has to clean it up anyway. By no means am I advocating pulling unsafe equipment. I am merely saying if you deem it safe to pull other than a sticker at least pull it to closest reputable place etc.

I agree with the mobile screw job but that’s not always the case
A shop will see a big ticket just the same

I used to use a mobile guy in the past and he would take his time and do it right but the next guy or shop would possibly do as you mentioned but what’s the answer to a dot guy or getting into a wreck taking it to the closest shop?

Im not saying I would or wouldn’t do that but at the end of the day I think we would be on the hook for not doing it before moving it

It’s sorta like the guy who fiixed his paper log book so he could get down the road a few more miles
Even if he was parked at a Walmart for 9 hours and some drunk or whatever hit his truck and say injured someone then if he legally wasn’t supposed to make it to that location then the driver would have a case

I don’t believe we all do everything a 100% right all the time but we should know that there could be real consequences for any grey areas

there's been a time or 2, the registration was not in my permit book. there was a time or 2, i didn't check the permit book, and the registration was expired, or the inspection was expired. i knew my equipment, we didn't have junk. that stuff got taken care of ASAP.

with all we have to do, one can "forget", so please stop making a big deal out of this. the o/p does not have that much time in. please tell me how perfect you always are...????

They can look up the trailer tag on the computer and see if it’s current or not. For $5 you can buy and fill out an inspection form yourself, provided the trailer in question is mostly roadworthy.

First, you get to the end of the month it's due in. So if the avi was due on 5/12, you have until 5/31.

If it's beyond that DOT can shut you down until it's complete, and they will find something they can cite you for.

If they want to be jerks, they can force the trailer to be off loaded and towed to a mechanic to be inspected.
