I have my own MC# and I am looking at leasing on with someone else for a few different reasons.

I seem to be hitting a wall getting a bobtail/ non trucking liability policy. No one wants to sell me a bobtail policy while I still hold an active authority. I do not want to revoke my authority yet so if things do not work out I am not starting over at square one back on my own. Does anyone know of a work around to this? Could I transfer my MC# to my wife or one of my children? Has anyone else done this before? Any ideas are welcome.

You can’t have an active authority unless you have the minimum liability insurance. You'll have to keep a policy active for your numbers to stay live. You should have no problem getting Bobtail or NTL separately while running under another carrier. Maybe start a Corporation to for your authority and run as a sole prop on the lease.
