About 2.5 hrs total driving. It's not much. But I already knew how to shift the 6 speed. Shifting up and down not really the problem. I was driving manual cars years ago. I'm trying to remember how to start manual truck smoothly. It's kind of jerking. I need to find the sweet spot between the clutch, brake and gas pedal when starting. I think I need to work on that. Nothing else comes to mind to better myself on the road.

Yes, my upshifting is perfect, downshifting is good, of course when Iam slowing down I had to break, come down to the right rpm and then clutch, then shift down, so it's slower than upshifting. But still I'd say my downshifting is pretty good. Other than that , we did full 45 minutes of driving on the highways, city traffic, back roads, up to the speed , in very safe manner. I wonder if she thought I was too nervous, because I was checking the mirrors a lot, every 10 seconds. She maybe thought I'm too nervous. Also when I start at the lights. I should probably start with 2 on gear. I started with 1, and it's really slow when passing the intersection, and of course I can't shift on the intersection, she gave me bad glances, lol.
But anyways like you said, I can't change the facts of being failed. I just have to try again. For the test , I'll go to same DPS again and see. and then decide what to do if I fail again. The good thing that, I won't have to do pre trip and backing, which wasn't hard ,but it takes a long time to finish those two. Thank you.

I was not in the cab during your test to confirm either side. But IMO, with 2,5 hours in the seat, those claimed things do happen.
2,5 hours is just NOT enough for a test.

There were average of 25 students at the weekends. So by the time your turn comes, not a lot of driving.

I think this driver is using the accelerator as a fail safe and its probably the main reason he is "bucking and stalling". With a truck with an ECM in it (Post mid eighties) its not necessary to even apply the accelerator to get the truck moving, you simply come off the clutch until it starts to engage, come off the brakes and start upshifting. I'm not directing this at you, but to the driver who really needs some help to get past this, He needs a lot more practice on just starts and stops.. A driver can fail simply because they show that they do not have control over the truck.

This is one of the "bad habits" that we have to break people of who drive cars. When you learned to drive a regular car with a manual, you learned that you had to feed acceleration with the clutch to get past that "friction point". With trucks, you do not have to do that. The next thing you're going to fight is the fact that in trucks, you don't get speed with the accelerator, you get it by shifting into higher and higher gears.. You need to shift fast and use LOW rpms.. the next thing that newbies do is rev to the sky! The higher you rev the longer you have to wait to upshift. So practice progressive shifts, first shift is practically as soon as you get the truck moving.. tap -neutral-tap shift.. watch the tach and as soon as you get to 900 or so, shift again.. next shift is when you hit 1000 or so.. this takes practice,, and patience. The worst time to learn this is when you're under the gun in a road test

    The
The trucks we're using is 6 speed synchronized ,so not 10 speed double clutching. That's why I thought I had to use accelerator from the starting point. I wonder if 6 speed trucks would still start moving( just with clutch releasing slowly, while holding the brake) before pushing the throttle?
