So I would greatly appreciate your advice and thoughts on this. What would your recommendations be as to carrying a gun OTR even though companies usually forbid it and all state laws are different?

I just got out of Philly....the complete ghetto. I mean I would not want to come here as a single female driver. Let alone being white and petite. I'm only 5' 4" and weigh 120 lbs.

I was just off of Lehigh Ave and Aramingo Ave in Philly for reference to anyone who knows the area or who has been here to help. American Supply company was where I was at....down the street from these two listed above btw.

@CAXPT, @OLDSKOOLERnWV, @MACK E-6, @Big Road Skateboard, @MOBee, @cke (anyone and everyone else who has thoughts or advice).

I think carrying OTR would be problematic legally. Even if you get non-resident permits from the states that offer them, you'll never get reciprocity everywhere. So, you'll either be carrying illegally in those states or be required to keep it locked up in the sleeper with ammo separate, which won't do you any good when you need it. As far as company policy, I just wouldn't tell them, but be prepared to be fired if you needed to use it.

If you DONT carry there may be a need for a psychiatrist.
Last officer I asked about a firearm in a CMV told me the courts have found that your sleeper is an extension of your home so carry away. BUT , that was in Alabama so take that for what its worth.

Legality can be tricky in some states, and some points of delivery.

At the end of the day, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

    i CCW...legally, but in my state only....and i am a retired driver.

i can very easily go to a class, and get a ccw for 36 states, with a Utah permit. but then i'd need to get one for Florida, CT, MA, ME, VT, and a few other states by going to a different class.

if i recall, the Utah permit is like $400 (for 36 states), the others are variable and only last 1 year.....i think the Utah one is like good for 5 years?

so unless you have the time, i'd be very leery on what others say about taking a gun along with you. laws are different in every state in MA, it's 1 year MANDATORY JAIL for carrying a gun with out a permit......

and NO, there is NO Federal firearms carry permit that you can get....that is the BIGGEST BUNCH of horse pucky you will ever hear....

    proceed at your own risk....

I'd get along with that officer great, lol. Yeah, a gun if you know how to use it properly is your best line of defense especially when there aren't any cops close by anyway.

It sucks. It is such a hit or miss with having a gun in a CMV. I mean, do I chance it and not carry is the question or carry and lose my job if I had to use it?

Let's be honest....nobody is going to watch after me other than me. Even if there was another trucker around. Most will either sit and ignore or watch either because they don't care or they have a family to go home to and aren't going to risk their own live whether it is the right thing to do or not. I don't feel like I'm in danger or anything around male drivers like a lot of women out here, but being in areas I don't know (even the ones I do know especially in the ghetto) I don't feel safe being around. And it would be way easier to take down someone of my figure compared to y'all out here. Just sayin'

I know the military bases you'd be screwed in trying to take a gun on base even if it wasn't loaded and in the sleeper or a gun safe.

Personally never felt the need to carry.

Then again the biggest threat I've ever had to deal with are bears and the odd crackhead.
