Pulled up to the Boar's Head in Mableton, GA. Backed in to the dock circa 1:00pm. Delivery isn't until 4:00am tomorrow morning, and today is a holiday so I wasn't expecting anybody to be here.

Long about 3:00pm, dude knocks on my truck, says they can unload me now if I want. So now I'm trying to get HQ to put a load on me to get me out of Atlanta while the traffic is still light due to the holiday.

HQ found me a load. Drove to the Knight yard that's just a couple miles away from the Boar's Head receiver, dropped my empty reefer, hooked a loaded dry van, drops in Bessemer, AL tomorrow.

Been having a run of bad luck with dropped trailers. This is the third one in a month where the driver who dropped it didn't put the paperwork in the manifest box. And getting a copy faxed to a truck stop is always a pain in the keister.

So as I was dropping the first empty trailer at the drop yard in Colton this morning, it was time to bobtail up to St George Utah and grab the second one. Had it all planned down to where I was going to get fuel, shower, food, sleep and coffee. Leave the drop yard at 0500 local time, get up to the scales on Cajon Pass and my phone rings. Dispatch. John, where are you? In the middle of Cajon Pass on my way to grab the second trailer. Stop!!!!!! The planner has a load for you. Now I’m not a total Ahole, so I let my DM speak. Go back to the Colton yard, grab an empty, and head to Compton for a drop and hook, we’ll send you the load assignment on your way down, Ok, with the BS I’ve been involved in all weekend, I don’t care about the 40 miles of bobtail sightseeing up and down Cajon. Get to the yard, grab an empty, the load is going to Staunton Va, loaded miles are correct, the empty miles include the 40 mile joy ride as well as the deadhead miles. Ok, one less thing to discuss.

I hook a trailer, then check all the particulars of the load, one thing that stands out at me like a sore thumb, the load had a trailer number on it which means it’s loaded. Pick up date and time?
5/27 @ 0800 which means this trailer was loaded on Friday morning ready to be picked up. It’s a 24/7 drop and hook. I went out of my mind. I immediately called my DM, whom I have to cut some slack with because he and his wife got smacked on his bike last weekend and got banged up pretty good. He’s been out of work and working from home and taking care of his wife who got a broken ankle.

With the most calm voice I could muster, I told him the deal, and that all F’ing weekend, I’ve been lied to time and time again by the planner, weekend dispatch and anyone else involved up to and including the janitor. He was completely at a loss for words when I laid it all out. Because I finished a reset Friday at 1500, which I needed so that’s not an issue, I drove 111 miles, then did another reset. That’s what had me on fire. Then the blatant lies, he put me in for $300 worth of layover. I guess even he couldn’t find anything good out of my weekend.

Now the funny part, this load, loaded on Friday is due at noon on Thursday. Not happening in my world. I called in after I hooked this load, and told them that it will be there noon on Friday, and that if they assigned me to it when they should have, it would have been there noon on Wednesday. The days of me giving a sheet about loads and how they plan them is history. I’ll do my job, safely and on time, that’s it. Favors? Hell has a better chance of freezing over.

I hear ya John! Im still at home getting ready to head back to Kentucky. I get a text that my load is ready. I replied, Wish I was. 10 minutes later I get a text saying that my load paperwork is in our office in Shelbyville but the actual trailer is at the Ryder Yard in Louisville. That means it was ready a few days ago and they had to show it being removed from the yard. Thankfully we have very few actual delivery times. It gets there when it gets there....now for the 260 mile drive to work.....

Come off hometime yesterday and grabbed a gatorade to Indy. Told them Id get to drop 0400 this morning to beat the traffic. Get my reload and it is a live load at HP/Ryder in Plainfield at 1400.....and live unload in Memphis Amazon 2000 tomorrow night....told them too close to my 14 and too much time to get there. No response til 0930 this morning. Told to go try and load early, get here and fond out out appt was 0900 not 1400.....you would think the planner would get times right being they got all the info in front of them.....getting loaded now and told them Id be in Memphis about 1000 tomorrow morning and see if they can reschedule cuz Im not sitting around babysitting stuff.....Apparently this was all that was available in the area....

This will be passed on to the consumer. The "working middle class" will "foot the bill". Isn't this the American way?

One thing I have noticed since fuel prices have been going thru the roof. Not one carrier has cut the speed back on their trucks. Usually, during high fuel prices, carriers will "tied down their trucks", but I have not noticed any doing it now. Now the company I drive for, before this "gouging" all started, we were already governed @67 mph and I have not been in a truck yet that was not getting 9 or better mpg.

From what I gather, you live in or near Greenville,NC, You can now enjoy some of the best BBQ , Parkers BBQ. Love it! Just received 4 lbs. First time I ever ate Parkers BBQ was way back in 1963. I loved Billy's BBQ over in Wilson, but understood he passed away and they closed down.
