Long story short, my body is telling me to get out of flatbed. It's the only thing I've done in the 4+ years I've had my CDL. Same company. Has anyone out there made the switch from flatbed?

One thing I'm wondering is if I should jump right into line haul or take it slower and apply for a "driver trainee" or something. Maybe to get my backing up to snuff. But, would a trainee job set me too far down the pay scale for a guy with 4 years driving experience and a relatively clean record?

Yup no big deal go apply to the company that fits what you're looking. There is no need heading back to "kindergarten trucking" unless you missed out on nap time :D:D

@ibcalm19 is right there’s no need to take 2 steps back to take 1 forward. They might not even let you apply as “driver trainee” with that much experience. If you’re wanting to do linehaul you’re gonna hafta learn to break and hook sets and back up pups and converter dollies, which is a whole different learning curve in itself anyway. Go for it now is my vote man.

Be careful about night linehaul. Some companies like R&L you will never work the dock as a linehaul guy but others like XPO and FedEx you might spend half of your night doing dock work and half driving.

That's exactly why I thought trainee might be better. And, I've never pulled a hazmat load, or a box trailer, much less doubles before.
It sounds like most companies would train you in on that stuff even if you sign up for line haul off the bat?
