That’s how the red light cameras are in Memphis.

Want to reduce crashes? Stop putting unnecessary lower speed limits just for cash grabs. That bridge would run fine at 65mph speed limit for all vehicles. You lower the speed limit you’re going to cause a larger speed differential between drivers instigating sudden lane changes and brake checks.

This was a long time coming in this case. The Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in recent years has seen an uptick in accidents, mostly involving trucks. Something had to give.

I usually don’t speed. In busy cities where the speed limit is 55 I actually follow it I know why it’s set like that because of the constant flow of exiting and entering traffic. Construction zones with slim lanes I also follow the speed limit. Then you got places in the middle of nowhere with straight ways and wide open roads set at 55 for no other reason than a cash grab. Government greed is all it is. Because of it they instigate crashes.

The reason why they have the speed limit set like that is because that bridge passes through the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge.
You’re passing through wetlands that are FEDERALLY PROTECTED(US Forestry Service has jurisdiction).
One the last accidents that occurred on that bridge the truck fell into the swamp and contaminated the wetlands with diesel fuel and who knows what else. If you cause a wreck on that bridge and any fluids/chemicals harm/damages those wetlands you’ll have to answer to Uncle Sam(and from my understanding tickets from a federal park ranger are VERY EXPENSIVE).

Some people also seem to have forgotten that driving is a privilege, not a right! And if you abuse that privilege,it will be taken away.

Yea I know. I have zero control of when my truck is in a restricted lane or when it's speeding.
    Get real!
Follow the very basic, easy to follow laws of speed limits and lane restrictions or hang up your keys. After all if you can't manage that little bit, you don't need to be driving anyway.

So 55 MHP Vs 65 gonna make THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE??? Be real. If it's so protected area simply send all trucks via New Orleans (US90), and don't lie about "safety" crap

Apparently it does make a big difference otherwise the governor wouldn’t have signed it into law. If you’ve got a problem with it take it up with the Louisiana Senate-they’re the ones who passed the law.
    Or better yet,find another route.
Or,just simply obey the speed limit!

bzinger, Wasted Thyme and drvrtech77 Thank this.
