Trucking in North America vs around the world

Is that a Chinese design or is it based on a cab we know?
THeir bigger cab is the old Volvo FM,that i know.

As far as I could tell, this is chinese design. I did not see any links or similarities to other cabs.

They use many different cabs.
In Nigeria most of the CNHTC trucks use the old Volvo FL7/FL10 cab (the CNG trucks in the first pictures, the yellow cab truck in the picture with all the parked trucks, and also the trucks in @bengt 's post. BTW, as far as I can tell the trucks in Bengt's picture are actually Howo Sinotruks, not Foton. See the CNHTC logo on the front grill)

This cab is a newer design, but according to drivers the Volvo FL cab is better, more rugged. The new cab is more plastic, and falls apart faster, according to the drivers I talked to.

They also use the Volvo FH12 cab, MAN cabs, the old Steyr cabs , and the Steyr/MAN L2000 cab. (see below)

 

Lots of familiar names of dutch, german and other european countries on the old trucks.
Many even still run the european license plates.....

Last time I was there was 8 years ago.
Biggest difference I noticed: 8 years ago there were lots and lots of old North American trucks. Swift Freightliners and Volvo's, old Schneider and JB Hunt trucks.
Still lots and lots of old Mack's and old Euro trucks, but the Freightliners Volvo's and Internationals have mostly disappeared.
All (well...almost all, I also saw a few new Scania's) the newer trucks are Chinese. Sinotruck, DongFeng, FAW, Foton, Shacman. Most popular the Howo/Sinotruks.

 

Not so much. At least not at that moment.
I was mostly in the Lagos area. Crime rates are high, but mostly theft. Further north you have to travel with armed guards because of the risk of kidnapping.

In some areas of Lagos the taxi driver told us to put the cell-phones down, and not make pictures while in traffic jams.
They will smash the car window, grab the phone (and your wallet if they can) and run off with it.

The bad unsafe trucks, like the one with kinked and disconnected left front brake hose and the tied up stabilisers, I don't get into. Not while driving.
The brake hoses were not only like that on the front axle (left side), but also on left side of the both drive axles, so only brakes on right side, nothing on the left.
And this truck was pulling a CNG tanker trailer!




Later you start to think about it, and realise these are the trucks that share the road with you.
Overloaded and shaken to bits and pieces on the bad roads.
Trucks, car and motorbikes and mopeds on the highway going against the traffic.
People walking on the highway, crossing the highway in front of oncoming trucks.
Cars and trucks without lights in the dark.

They are not all like this. But many are.

Most likeley a two speed rear axle from a Volvo. Funny with a pipe nipel as a spacer. A Swedish trrck inspector would probably faint when he saw something similar.




Probably a crasched Scania rebuilt with parts from a Volvo and a british truck.
