For example, Ontario's Class A is practically the same as the U.S.'s Class A license (both Ontario and the U.S. use Class A to allow the person to drive semi-trailers).

In Canada, I believe they also require a pre-trip inspection so how come if a Canadian moves to the US, they're required to take the road test to get a CDL?

Because of NAFTA laws made in the 1980's.

Until they change those we are SOL.

If you have a US or CDN license it means you are a citizen of USA or Canada. The rules for transporting stuff are different, as a USA citizen cannot load to Winnipeg and reload to Saskatoon. Same for Canadian drivers, cannot unload at St Louis and then load to Florida before returning to Canada.

Because it's a foreign country, right ? We trust our neighborly states in the procedures, but we don't trust a foreign country on "how to" test for a CDL ! ! I mean, we don't have same HOS. We don't have same speed limits. Quebec doesn't much speak english.

There needs to be a formal transfer agreement in place between the province/state outlining the criteria for training, experience, and licensing.

    You asked!

FTR even within Canada some drivers need to do a road test depending on the province they are moving to/from

Even between some states you still need to do another driving test, so if states don't recognize other states how do you expect another country to do so?

some people in Michigan think Canada is just an extension of the us and they can do what they want.

    why?

for the 42 people with commercial drivers licenses who annually move across the border?
