This is why I hate being on the shoulder. I blew a tire about four miles from the Love's north of Las Vegas and drove the shoulder there even though I had a heavy load.

This really has been discussed in another thread and I fully agree that this practice should be stopped, not only for trucks but other vehicles have come to think the shoulder of an Interstate is there for any type of activity. As I stated in the other discussion on this topic, the state of Va even posted neon signs along 1-81 @ 118 mm marker, "NO PARKING ON SHOULDER". Do you think that did any good?? LOL Just the other night, 11 trucks were parked there on the shoulder.

how is it today's drivers can't see a vehicle on the shoulder??

it can be a car, truck, fire truck or police car with all lights flashing and people just plow right into it.

maybe the cell phone should be deactivated when the vehicle is in motion

Sometimes it’s not just distracted driving. Tunnel vision/fatigue can set in for a lot of drivers when they least expect it,even more so at night.

States should start enforcing it. I've seen countless troopers pass stopped vehicles. They should stop every time they are not occupied with something else. If the person is not stopped for an emergency or breakdown, they should get fined. The fines should be massive. If they start enforcing it, fewer people would do it. As it is now, it's out of control.

At the very least, I'm taking it to the next exit ramp. Sitting in traffic is asking for trouble.

well, that's why our living room set is delayed...

in any event, yes, the "big rig" was on the shoulder, that's a given, but why?

was he sick? was it a breakdown?

it cannot be assumed he was "just parked there".
