Always move with a well known, national moving company. Make sure the company you choose is also going to deliver your stuff and not trip-lease it out to some fly-by-night, unknown outfit with a pretty name.
Put a few tracking devices in a few of your items, especially the expensive stuff.

How has The PODs system not completely out the normal household moving companies out of biz ?

Im surprised these people didn’t just agree to it and then teach the delivery guys a little frontier justice lesson when they arrived

So when I recently moved and did a google search what came up was a lot of brokerages. That Horizon they mentioned was relentless. Calling several times a day saying "We can't hold that price much longer". Ended up doing a self move because I just didn't have much trust in the industry. Someone mentioned PODS. For my pickup and destination locations they were very expensive.

When my mother was moving I bought a new enclosed trailer we packed it up and did two trips left the last load in it until she brought her new house unloaded trailer and then sold it for basically what I paid for it.

It’s sad when you have brokers in the moving business!

Many people do not want the job of loading and unloading their belongings. The problem is with people that go for the cheapest rates rather than paying more to a company known for quality moves. North American/Allied, United/Mayflower and Atlas to name some.
There will always be a place for moving companies. Many companies pay the moving expenses for employees that they re-locate. As does the military. Though both companies and the military also offer money to those that want to move themselves.
