Rand McNally TND750 : Software issues or ok ?

I've been using a 750 for about a 6 weeks. I am a technological retard, so in terms of all the things it may be able to do other than being an actual GPS unit I can't speak of one way or the other, I don't use it for anything other than directions.

As far as that is concerned, I liked the 740 better. The 750 isn't as intuitive to use as the 740 was, at least to me. It will get you to where you need to go but it doesn't always route you the best way. In all fairness, the 740 would do this also but the 750 does it a lot more. This could be because I have so0mething in my settings incorrect for what I want but I have checked and I don't think I do.

Example: I had to go from Chicago to Shelby Township, Michigan (just North of Detroit) this past weekend. It wanted me to stay on 94 to 275 instead of 94 to 14 to 275. 14 is fine to be on and moves good, so I don't know why it wouldn't route me that way, plus 94 to 275 adds a few minutes onto the drive. Also, it wanted me to get 696 about 5 mil;es before I needed to and cut thru surface streets more than I needed to.

Another thing I have noticed is that the auto recalculate is set up somewhat differently then the 740 was. If you blew by an exit on the 740 because you knew you could go further down the road a better way the 740 would automatically pick up the reroute and change on it's own. The 750 wants you to keep turning around and go back to where is told you to get off. It will pick up the reroute and at the bottom of the screen there will be a pop up banner for alternate route you need to click on and then it will be there but it is not as good at just popping in the new route as the 740 was.

I bought a replacement battery from them. They seem like good people.

 

For the most part, I agree with the assessment of the 750 above. In cities, it tends to make things a bit more complicated than it needs to be. Most of the time I see the better route and take it and it recalcs correctly.

I much preferred the user interface on the 740. The “classic” view I think it was called. I used it on the 730 and then there was a new version on the 740 but I opted to continue to use the “classic” interface. Now that interface isn’t available. Seems I have to touch the screen a lot more to do simple things.

save route works differently as well and not for the better.

the calculated times on routes seem to be more accurate. On the 740 it basically divided miles by 60 mph to give you a time frame. The 750 fluctuates the mph to be more accurate and takes into account traffic flows as well.

I’m getting used to the 750 and run it into the ground but I was a bit more comfortable with the 730/740.

Oh, it has a lot more small chain and mom n pops Truck Stops listed too.

 

I've had the 750 for about 3 years now. I really only use it when I'm going somewhere new. Most of my routes are the same so I just let it sit there and when it says something I don't agree with I tell it to shut up .
I've thing I noticed with the last major update this year, it seems the tell rand feature is no longer working. Used to be if I say for example clicked on the speed icon to report an inaccurate speed, when I would connect to wifi to check for updates, I would usually get an email within minutes upon connecting from rand saying thank you for the update. Just wondering if they did away with it, or they removed it from the older models. I mean it does seem they are coming out with a new model every 6 months, and constantly trying to get folks to buy the newer models.
