You stated ‘company yard’. I myself would not leave my truck at a ‘company yard’ for extended days off, unless I owned that ‘company yard’. If you own the truck, why are you even asking the question?

Because if it was your truck you wouldn't of asked the question, and you most assuredly would not be letting random person from the company drive it on your days off.
And if you let them, you have more issues than getting home when you want....

That said the only answer is ask your company because it doesn't matter what other companies do, it matters what your company allows.

I don’t own the truck, I’m a company driver. When I say “my truck” I don’t mean as a owner it’s just my assigned truck. Of course if I owned the truck I wouldn’t even bother asking.

I’m leaning towards continuing to commute to and from the yard. I don’t wanna give the company that much control over me. If I take the truck home, it don’t matter how long I stay out they’re gonna push for nothing but a 34 hour reset when I go home.

You should probably figure that out before you join the company. I choose to work for a big company, becouse they are close 30m and they let me use their truck for everything, I think lol. I park it at home, do shopping, drive it to the yard and back if needs repairs, no one says anything. I had a nice 4 door Silverado with only 8k miles for 3 years, sold it, barely used it.

Doesn't everyone complain when things don't get fixed?

Yes, I complain also when things don’t get fixed, but I don’t keep the company truck at my home, away from the people that have the resources to do the repairs. As others have noted, the OP should have researched this before hiring on at this employer.
The OP should consider himself/herself fortunate this employer hired him/her, many companies stipulate drivers must live within XX hours/miles from the yard. This is to reduce the likelihood of this very situation occurring.

    Solutions:

    1) Get a car
    2) Have your wife pick you up
    3) Move closer to terminal/apply at terminals near you/you are in trucking so when you buy or rent make sure you have several employment opptys nearby

The easiest solution is a beater car or to work for a company closer to where you live. If stuff doesn’t get fixed because you have the truck at your house then that means both you and the company are losing more revenue getting things fixed when you’re on the road.

But to answer your question, the one company job I had the trucks went to the yard every weekend to be washed and serviced. We earned paid vacation but we could take unpaid time off also. All that was asked of us is that if we took more than 6 weeks off per year that we pay a prorated share of the insurance when the truck was parked.
