It was a big day for me and the Management. After riding all the rides she fit on, and a few I fit on, two trips to the FFA milkshake stand to watch the Jr steer. I can finally sit down. :(

We have had a busy few days, including firetruck ride yesterday, and dirtbike races tomorrow.

    Hope everyone is doing good.

Check in now and then. A photo or two of the local scenery and all.

    This ^^^

I think sometimes I watch the board more than I truck lol. Even on weeks at home, I still keep it on the screen like I'm day trading. Plus there's a lot of brokered freight that doesn't make it on the boards very often. It might not always be the top paying freight that day, but it can be your bread and butter in a downturn.

Or watching the board for a few hours and nothing catches my eye and then 30min later a few new postings pop up.

Last week and this week I had loads cancel on me when when I had re loads set up. Picked up in Rochester today but 2 days ago my load delivering up there cancelled. Instead of going to Rochester and re loading there I found a load going to Elmira and deadheaded the 100mi up there.

A lot of stuff we do doesn't hit the boards, they'll call us before posting it. 2 trucks instead of a single truck operation makes a difference in that aspect and just using a handful of brokers that have freight in this area. Working with a new broker I make it a point to say "hey we always have trucks in this area, give us a call before you give it away to someone else." All my regular moves came from doing that.

Some weeks it works out better just booking a day or 2 in advance and other weeks it works out better planning the whole week from the start of the week........if the loads don't cancel Lol

Thankful family is there to support and help execute the plan. A few more things checked off the list. Travel safe.

Heck you just made me think of a pretty good question I forgot to ask. When I’m bidding for loads, what expenses do I account for other than fuel and how do I know a good run when I see one, or more importantly, how much do I need to make minimum to get paid a decent profit? I know something like $1 a miles is pretty trash, but not what’s average, good, best, etc

I'm guilty of watching it alot. Even when I'm to busy to haul anything spot market. Sometimes it makes me feel better, sometimes worse when tied up with contract customers. But my first two years independent, I relied heavily on load boards.
