Hey guys, sorry to post to ask this, I have searched but can't really seem to find the right post to answer my questions. I bought a truck, need to get bobtail and physical damage insurance. All the quotes I keep getting every single company (progressive and a couple online quotes) are adding non-trucking liability. Would NTL be better to have than just bobtail? What companies offer quotes online without adding the NTL automatically that you apparently can't take off?
Another insurance question.....

Non trucking liability is the technical name for "bobtail" insurance. It covers the liability of operating your truck whenever it is not being operated under dispatch, meaning at the direction of the motor carrier that has the primary insurance coverage on it.
NTL and bobtail are the same coverage.wis bang and Metalicious Thank this. -

I’m no insurance agent but doesn’t ntl would cover a trailer too ? As long as you are empty and not under carrier dispatch. Bobtail is just a tractor not under dispatch ?

All underwriters will require you to be leased to a carrier before binding a non-trucking or bobtail liability policy and a physical damage policy. They are all categorized as secondary insurance products, meaning they need a primary policy from a motor carrier responsible for safety to be valid. You may be able to get short term commercial auto to allow you to apply for a hunter's permit, which is a temporary apportioned credential used for when you are in-between leases and need to move your truck from one place to another. Progressive does not write that type of insurance, you will need a real underwriter like Great West or similiar.wis bang and Metalicious Thank this.
