Wilson vs East stepdeck tri axle 17.5 tires

    I've been a fan of good rubber for many years, even with standard operation.

    I believe it pays for itself but that's just my opinion.

    I'm leaning towards 19.5 rubber. I'm still working out the differences between 17.5 vs 19.5 vs 22.5.

    I have space for partial most of the time , its just rate/distance/planning/market/timing etc ... All on the table ... Sometimes its not worth to have extra $500-600 partial if you will loose much time and will be exhausted because of it ( extra 50 miles through chicago traffic for example) ... Depends how you drive ... I did December one run to CA and had 3 partials besides my main load ... It was so worth it ... When i stay home and getting loaded friday towards east coast - if partials exist i will grab them all and be as early as 6am on my first stop to make it through the day with all loading

    I have talked to Marty (MJ) at Larson Trailers in Sioux Falls. They order the LP trailers with the 19.5 tires. I have bought trailers from Mickey Jones at Superior trailers in Oklahoma City. He should be able to answer questions about a tri-axle trailer. You might also try Chad at Walker's trailer in Monroe, LA. They are very knowledgeable and have been doing this for a while with repeat business from Landstar and Mercer contractors. Superior and Walkers are primarily Doonan dealers. These are guys to gather some information that might be helpful.

    I've definitely given up on the tri axle idea. My flatbed knowledge is very old.

    Anyway I was looking at a 53 Reitnouer stepdeck with ramps and stands and a sliding rear axle...ca legal.

    It has 19.5's but I've heard way better things then them as opposed to 17.5's.

    I've heard mostly bad about 17.5's.

    That setup should work just fine. I have a 2021 Reitnouer flatbed. I have not had any issues of any kind with this trailer. I should have spent the money years ago on higher-end equipment instead of jacking around with lower-end equipment. Take care and good luck.

    I bet the biggest problem with 17.5s is they are run under inflated which causes them to get hot and blow. I was looking at 17.5s the other day the the Continentals I would buy are to be run at 120psi. I could be wrong but I bet there isn't many guys running that much air in the tires. Under inflation is really hard on a tire. Also, these tires are $256 a piece through my carrier so they're pretty easy on the wallet. Just my thoughts...

    My wagon came with the HTL2 Continental's 235/75r17.5 rubber. They actually run at 125psi..

    I believe this, & running slow ~65-68mph is what keeps them alive when the mercury pushes past ~80°f. Still have 4 of them left with 138k miles on the front axle..

    You carrier price sound good to me. Can't find replacements for under $536 each. How's about ya snag me 4 of em & I gladly give ya $350-400 per tire.!! :)
