Was viewing your old stomping grounds and crossed the Fox River flowing down thru IL. Made me recall loading Holsteins in St Charles, IL a few times.
What made it memorable was a time 2 of us wound up there on a weekend to pick up . Got in, got a room at the Fox Hotel. Hit the Fox River Bar downstairs and imbibed. We had not parked at the loading spot for some reason. Sunday AM we are sleeping it off/sleeping in, a knock on the door. Thinking it is hotel help, wise buddy shouts out.. "Open the door and come in or piss and swim under..." So the man who we were hauling for opened and came in. Was just coming from church he said and had not seen the trucks. Wanted to be sure we were there and knew to load Monday at ?? time. We were able to reassure him that we were the best cow hauling drivers who had ever hit slick ice and would be there and ready to serve. He took it well, as we never heard about it from the boss. Good times on layovers. ( We did not have many layovers.)

I know the Fox Hotel your talking about... in fact my Senior Prom was there. by then it had been refurbished and renamed The Baker Hotel.. it was a nice place. the drinking age was 21 in Illinois.. so I and couple friends made a quick trip to Lake Geneva Wi..that day for some PBR and Annie Greensprings wine ( for our ladies ) .. ..before prom
You know that area well .. I haven't been back there for 36 years ...

Not alot of lay overs when your tote'n cattle.. I'am quite sure you earned the right for a day off and a few barley pops.. from what you have shared with us
It's a long story but when I was still learning the ropes and traveling with the crew that broke me in to the Livestock relocation business
We got hung up outside Billings at alittle bar/ Cafe at some wide spot in the road waiting on a storm to blow through
We were in there eating just the 4 of us.. and the 300lb native American bar tender/ cook.. threw some quarters in the music box and told me I was fix'n to dance with her .. I politely declined.. she pulled out a good sized toad sticker and informed me I will dance .. or I would spend the rest of my life walking the earth as a steer.. anyhow I danced a song or 2 in her arms .. while my friends laughed .. I made my way to the bathroom and out the window.. I hid in 1 of our trailers .. the short version is she called the law and I spent the night in the jailhouse .. Sheriff said it was for my own safety

Ha.. Gave out one winter night crossing the WI line at Lake Geneva. Snow piled up all around and parking lot at the beach passable but covered.
So I parallel park across about 6 car spaces, level my furniture pad mattress across IH L195 split seats (hotshot box supporting between) and wrap up in my army blanket to snooze. I am rudely jerked awake by some hellacious banging and hollering at drivers side door. So I raise my head up from my side and there is this wild looking live something staring in at me. Didn't know where to crap, puke or come. He can talk.. Finally I am awake enough to break it down.
He is the snowplow op and he wants me to move. To where, Anywhere he says. So I unwrap, crank up, look around (no traffic) and whack a U turn around him as he plows forward. Shut it off in the spot was in and went back to sleep. Snowplow ops are a different breed.

    Well .. 2 things ..
1st .. You fooled me I expected some blow back about it from @Oxbow.. maybe even @pete781693 ... I figured you would just file it in your memory bank and save it for some special occasions...;)
    2.. From.you I wouldn't expect anything less :biggrin_2559:
I can't wait for when you play that card.. cause knowing you it will be well played ..it will be worth it & well worth the occasion..lol
In fact I could see you sitting with the crew laughing the hardest and cheering her on ..:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

I still got a sense of humor.. and my Nadds !!

I'm not as quick as @wore out . I'm still absorbing the entirety of the situation - and that in the throngs of intimacy with the lady the phrase "you ain't done till she says you're done" comes to mind!
