I don't mind naming names right now. FedEx Freight, we have a variety of health insurance plans to choose from.
I'm on the cheapest HSA plan, with a $15 per month cost (around $3.40 per week), $2,350 deductible, and $6,900 out of pocket max.
The 401k will match 8% to the employee's 6%.
We get something like 4-6 paid national holidays, 3 sick days and 2 weeks vacation, with increased sick and vacation days after 7(?) years.Attached Files:

Most of the small or midsize trucking companies can’t offer a very good health insurance policies. Most of them are catastrophic plans in nature. Meaning they’re really only good if you come down with something that’s gonna cost a lot of money like if you need heart surgery or cancer or something. The company I work for has a $7000 annual deductible. Are you kidding? And I pay $300 a month for it. Honestly I’ll probably never use the health insurance that I’m paying $300 monthly for. But I keep it just in case, I’m getting older and eventually somethings gonna break. Lol Also these companies are pretty tricky, if you do come down with something and you’re unable to work they’ll probably take you off the books fire you would cancel your insurance immediately anyhow. So unless it’s under some kind of perfect scenario you really are carrying worthless health insurance like this. And that seems to be the way a lot of companies are going with their health insurance plans.
Dont just read the headlines when picking a company. “Two weeks vacation pay your first year“. My company took what should be a weeks vacation and just split it in half and called it two weeks. Lol I’m pretty sure my average weekly paycheck over the course of the last year was about $1300. That’s average! They paid me $530 each week for two weeks.
companies advertise 401(k) plans but really what it comes down to is how much if any are they matching. They’re not matching anything, you can just get your own plan. Start a Roth.
Recruiters, will say “we offer 401(k), Health insurance, two weeks vacation pay, blah blah blah, ask them to break it down for you. And have them put it in writing. Because a lot of the time it’s literally almost nothing they’re really offering you.CamryXSE Thanks this. -
I pay $580 a month for the family plan, me and my 2 kids. It has a $5200 deductible, after that insurance pays for 100% of everything. But then my company gives each employee with this plan a credit card that can be used for any medical expenses with $3200 on it. So in the end we would only have $2000 maximum out-of-pocket in a year.

Yes, I get it about catastrophic health care. Basically, you're signing up so you aren't ruined by medical bills. You're still going to pay plenty. -

If your buying health Ins on your own or through Obamacare , it’s very expensive .
the company I’m at has 200 employees and the ins costs me $500 a month and has a $5000 yearly deductible . I have to pay cash for the first $5k in medical bills . And then after that the ins only covers 80% of the bill .CamryXSE Thanks this. -
Military Veterans can use the VA .

Are you surrreeee you don't have a cap on out of pocket? 20% of $500,000 is a lot of money and in the case of a catastrophic event or diagnosis, hospitals know how to spend money for sure.
My company pays 50 or 80% (I don't have my notes) after the deductible up until the $7,000 cap.
So, I guess the company is lowering my cost based on what I'd pay on a 1099. It would be good to hear what someone is paying entirely on their own.
Hopefully you are paid well and like your job. There are all these other factors besides just benefits. I had a pretty decent intermodal job with Schneider that had a better 401k. The things was, their idea of a terminal was a dusty, dirt lot with no amenities and I never could stand that.
