I need to investigate that. I was a peacetime REMF (no combat) but I don't even know what I'd qualify for.

Medical:. I use the VA and have TRICARE Select for my family (Retired Military), so I don't participate. Weekly rates: $55 individual, $130 I + Spouse, $100 I + Children, and $195 Family. The company's plan is a bit of an oddball, as it runs off a deductible, with 100% paid after the deductible, so an individual is on the hook for $6,900 ($13,800 for family), but then everything is covered with no annual or lifetime caps (I'm looking at the brochure right now). That's 100% coverage for office visits, preventative care, well child, chiropractic, labs, radiology, inpatient hospitalizations, outpatient surgery, urgent care, and emergency room. All mail-order and regular pharmacy is covered, too.

Dental: $50/mo individual, $100/mo family. No waiting periods, $1,000 annual maximum. 100% diagnostic and preventative, 80% basic services (fillings, root canals, periodontics), 50% major services (crown, composites, dentures, bridge repair). No Orthodontic coverage. Once again, I use outside coverage, as I pay about $110/mo for the FED VIP United Concordia High plan. (no maximums, and much better coverage).

    HSA: No cost.

Life Insurance: Company-paid, $20k coverage. Additional can be purchased

AD&D Insurance: Company-paid, $20k coverage. Additional can be purchased.

Short Term Disability: up to 100% avg salary for 13 weeks (caps at $110/day, unfortunately, but better than nothing). Company paid.

    6 Paid Holidays

4 days sick pay (can be carried over with no cap)

    3 days Bereavement pay

1 week vacation pay after 1 year, 2 after 3 years, 3 after 10 years (negotiable if you have a solid history and don't want to drop vacation days)

401(k): 50% match on first 5%. Example: you make $100k, put in 5%, that's $5k less on your taxable income into the account, company match is 2.5% (50% of 5%), or $2,500. Vesting is 20%/yr for first 5 years. No fees, all fees paid by separate account (the company transfers the match funds of those who left before being fully vested into an account to pay all the fees for everyone else).

    $25 tax-free cell phone reimbursement.

I think that's it, without getting into bonuses and such. As noted, I think the health plans aren't very good, but its the best they can manage with an employee pool of aging truck drivers and mechanics. I also don't like that some of the features are linked to carrying health coverage. I cannot have an HSA or get Short Term Disability without health coverage.. that would have been handy when I was hospitalized, the STD would have given me $110/day for 13 weeks and the HSA would not only lower my tax burden, but I could pay co-pays for medical and dental for my family with it from pre-tax dollars.

Don't have to have been in combat.
Dishonorable Discharge is the only discharge that bans completely VA benefits. All the others have some restrictions, but not a complete ban.

Awesome write up, thank you. This has got to help everyone to see how the benefits differ everywhere and then how do your benefits rate.

One thing that caught my eye, $600/year individual dental premiums with a $1000 max benefit!?

I get $1000 max dental thrown in with my insurance. I'm going over my driver's manual and strangely no mention of benefits.

Yeah... the dental is only good if you have good teeth, as it covers all preventative care (cleanings and exams twice per year along with annual x-rays). Beyond that? It would probably be cheaper to pay cash, as dentists charge less when not going through insurance (less headache and paperwork).

This wasn't in our Driver's Handbook, it came from our company's 2022 Employee Benefits Guide that is issued every year to all employees.

Sometimes the prescription meds te much cheaper paying cash instead of using the insurance . Many time the deductible co pay on meds is more than just paying cash and using an app like “good rx “ to find the lowest price near you

Yes , there is a cap , but the first five grand is outta my pocket , not counting the deductible and co pay for meds .

I no longer drive a big truck , I drive a 3/4 ton 4wd crew cab pickup about 30k miles a year , just getting to jobsites , where I work with leaky underground storage tanks , so I’m still spending a lot of times at truck stops .

i absolutely love my job , get paid well, love my boss and 99% of my co workers , I see My boss in person maybe once every two or three months .

get two weeks sick and three weeks paid vacation and some holidays .
And I get the good feelings of helping make the world a better place by helping contain pollution from fuels that leaked
