We were just about to pick up a load in Arizona. Minutes before our pick up the broker called to say the plant shut down due to a safety protocol and our load has been canceled. He said he’d pay TONU. That was the last I ever heard from him. He stopped taking my calls and stopped answering my emails. He didn’t send a TONU revised rate con.
Stupidly I decided to give another TQL broker a chance. We got a load that we had to deadhead 700 miles for (Nampa, ID to Fresno, CA). The morning of the load they assured us everything was fine. We got to the shipper—it was a ghost town. The shipper was actually in Florida! He promised to pay our deadhead. I called the broker and he too said he’d pay our empty miles. I asked for less than $2 per mile. They started getting belligerent and stopped answering my calls and emails as well. I finally got the broker on the phone today by calling from a different phone line and he said the best they can do is TONU and not pay empty miles. I was not happy at all, but I figured it was better than nothing. The SOB sent me a revised rate con for $150. #### them! That only pays one-third of the diesel we spent to get there. (The broker knew full well where we were deadheading from.) I have never had a broker pay so little for TONU. It was a slap in the face. I know they don’t give a ####, but I will NEVER take another load from them ever again.

That’s rough. But I do think you may have been the first in history to deadhead 700 miles for a tql load!

Yea it would have to be someone I work with A LOT and pay above average for a 700 mile DH.

Big DH like that is pretty much a violation of the freight commandments.

So sad to have to deal with people like these brokers / agents that can just operate like vermin.

He knew right away he wasnt going to get anything. Thought if he low balled he might. Lesson learned! Those guys are worthless unless you are a few miles away and they call with a last minute load. Only time I have ever seen them pay anything decent!
